Ryoko stood on the edge of the rock. Her perch protruded out from a steep hill with forest at the top and moor spreading as far as she could see. Glittering blue hinted at rivers or a lake. Paradise.
But she knew that wasn’t the case.
Because nothing here was what it seemed.
A breeze rippled through her cream-white pelt. Jade-green eyes darted left and right, searching. For what, she didn’t know. Prey? Predators? Allies or enemies? Ryoko chuckled to herself. Right. Like she’d find allies in this mess. Bunching her legs under her, she leapt off of the rock. Moor grasses softened her fall and she bounced to her feet. She took one step, then another. So far, nothing. It had been a while since she’d left the safety of the forest. Ryoko longed to run, feel the wind tearing through her fur once again, to race through the night-black tunnels that she knew criss-crossed underneath the open moorland. She longed for the exhilaration that came with running in the dark, with only her whiskers, ears, and nose to guide her.
Without hesitating, she shoved off with her back paws, stretching out her legs as far as they’d go as she took the first running steps into the moor.
(Yay! One post! Thank you Blu!!!!!)
Sicily stared around the huge forest. She looked up at the counter showing how many cats were in the arena.
2
So she wasn’t alone . . .
Thinking fast, Sicily checked around her for a water source. She would know not to start there, as it would be common and more cats would go there for water. Sicily looked at trees and caves, hoping to find somewhere to rest.
Ryoko tore across the moorland, reveling and the feeling of wind whipping through her fur. Her tail trailed behind her as she lengthened her strides, running as fast as she could possibly run. She knew it wasn’t wise to waste her energy like this, but when she had seen the moorland… she knew she couldn’t resist. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the counter, detailing the amount of cats in the arena. 2. Herself and one other. Well. The other cat was probably smart enough to avoid a water source. Ryoko decided to take advantage of it. The river glimmered ahead. Near it, Ryoko saw hints at tunnel entrances hidden in the moor grasses, camouflaged enough that no one would see them unless they were looking. The cream-white she-cat altered her course slightly to put her by the river and a tunnel entrance.
When she skidded to a stop on the flat sunning rocks bordering that part of the riverbank, she saw flashes of silver-scaled fish darting through the clear-blue water. The river meandered through the moor, moving slow enough that even an inexperienced swimmer could paddle across without any trouble. It was probably four or five tail-lengths deep at the deepest point. To Ryoko’s left, the river’s source lay somewhere in a far-off stretch of forest connected to the one she’d just left. To her right, the downstream flow continued through the moorland until it emptied into a lake.
The sunning stones hid many small entrances to mouse or snake burrows, possibly even rabbit holes. It was the latter she was looking for. After taking a drink of cool river water, Ryoko padded to the entrance of a larger rabbit hole at the base of where the rocks touched the moor. Sticking her head inside, she took a deep breath to scent the air. Rabbit scent, both stale and new, suggested that the tunnel was used every so often by the prey animals. No scent of fox, badger, or other predators. Her tail twitched. Ryoko backed out of the tunnel and glanced around the moor and riverside to make sure no one was watching. Then, whiskers stretched out so she didn’t hit a wall, she dove into the tunnel.
Good.
Sicily had climbed a tree, getting a great view of the moor. She had seen a cat slip into a tunnel, so her best advantage would be to stay in the tree for now . . .
Ryoko wove through the tunnels. Every time she came to a branch or a crossway, she either went straight or left. She didn’t know these tunnels, so she wanted to make sure she knew how to get out, or at least back to the river. Once she’d taken a path, she’d never forget it, or where it lead. The path she was on seemed to be leading deeper underground.
She hadn’t run too long before she heard running water. An underground river? She slowed, coming to a stop when her tunnel opened up.
“Woah.” Ryoko stared at the huge cave she’d stumbled upon. The tunnel she’d just come out of was close to the top, with a steep rock path leading to the stone riverbank. A fast-moving river charged past. At it’s narrowest point, a cat could jump across. Along the walls of the cave, many tunnels led in and out. “It’s like a gathering point,” Ryoko realized. She leapt across the river to examine the other side. A mouse skittered past. Thinking fast, Ryoko lashed out a paw, breaking it’s neck and killing it. Picking up the fresh-kill, she looked around for a place to put it. Hidden in the shadows of the cave, a smaller tunnel. Ryoko slipped through. It opened up into a little den-cave. “Perfect,” she murmured around the mouse.
Settling down, Ryoko began to eat the rodent. She’d find moss for bedding later. This… this would be her home. For as long as she needed it to be.
Shadow’s Secret looked around the landscape for other cats. “There!” She thought as she spotted a cat run into a tunnel. She silently crept up to a small stream and lapped a few mouthfuls of water. “I need to find shelter for the night.” She muttered to herself as she found a clump of rocks by the stream. She walked up to it and sniffed it before finding a crack inside the rocks and climbing inside. It was a little cold inside, but it would work for a night or two. Shadow’s Secret walked to the stream and gathered moss for her nest. She then walked beck to her den and spread the moss out until it was big enough for her to sleep in. After that she decided to hunt before night fell. She then spotted a rabbit nibbling on a stalk of grass. She crept up to it until she was close enough she could pounce on it with ease. She then finally jumped and bit the rabbits neck and carried it back towards her den. She set it inside and kicked dirt over it so it wouldn’t attract any hungry animals looking for an easy meal. She left her den and stretched before jumping on top of the rocks and basking in the sunlight. She half closed her eyes pale blue eyes and licked her jaws, cleaning the rabbit blood from them. The two silver earrings on each of her ears glittered in the sunlight.
Sicily –
3.
The counter was now at three.
She nestled herself In her tree and watched the arena. Sicily knew she would need prey soon, but she could go quite a long time without food. She sat watching the red sky as the sun sank, and it almost looked real.
Shadow’s secret yawned as the sun started sinking down. She had been basking in the sun for a while now and was beginning to get hungry. She jumped down and walked inside her den. She dug up the rabbit she caught earlier and dragged it outside. Once the rabbit was outside she ate, savoring the flavor. After she was finished she buried the bones by the stream and walked back to her den and curled up in her mossy nest then closed her eyes letting sleep claim her. She opened her eyes to find herself watching a kit pouncing on a ball of moss. The kit let out a tiny squeal as she jumped onto the moss. “Wait is that, me?” Shadow’s secret thought as she watched the kit play. Suddenly her parents walked up to her. “Um Shadow’s Secret can you go play somewhere else for a while?” Her father a black tom named Jet asked. “Ok.” She replied as she walked to a bush and sat there watching for what her parents were going to say. “So who’s going to take her?” Her mother a ShadowClan warrior named Darkfur asked. “You are.” Her father stated. “Me! Are you crazy!I’m a Clan cat! I’ll be exiled if they found out I mated with a rouge!” She yelled. “A ROUGE! Is that what you call me! Your her mother! You are going to take her! If you give her to me, I’ll kill her!” Her father snarled. “I can’t raise her! We’ll both die! I’m not going to leave my Clan or become a rouge like you!” Her mother hissed. “Fine, then the only way to settle this is if we kill her and leave each other and return to our normal lives.” Her father meowed. “Fine. Let’s go find her first.” Her mother said. Shadow’s Secret jumped back and ran. She ran until she found a rabbit’s burrow. She crawled inside panting with fear until she heard her parents.”Ugh we lost her!” Her father yowled. “She’s going to die anyways so lets just go.” He mother replied before running back towards ShadowClan. Her father jumped over a twoleg fence and stalked away. Shadow’s Secret woke up with a jolt her fur fluffed up in fear. After a few heartbeats she relized it was just a dream about her kit hood. She forced her fur to lie flat and walked out of her den to take a drink from the stream. She knew she couldn’t sleep if she tried so she sat by her den, her fur camouflaged in the darkness keeping search for any cat who would attack her in the night. “My parents were wrong,” She thought. “I have survived and I won’t die now.”

Brook padded up a small hill, and overlooked the arena.
She didn’t see any other cats, but she could smell them on the wind.
She raced down the hill and shot towards the trees.
Night had started to creep over the trees, and Sicily knew that sleep meant danger. Quietly, she leaped from the tree, killing a squirrel on her way down. She ate it at the trunk and looked up. The golden number on the fake sky read 4 (I think :P).
So more helpless cats had been thrown in.
Padding silently across the forest floor, she found a stream. Tasting the wind, she realised everything was safe. Sicily drank from the water and ran back up her tree.
There, she spent hours crafting a device to help her know if enemies were near during her sleep. Her brain often worked in ways that others’ didn’t. She had used the bendy twigs and tied them together to make an almost rope object. Then, Sicily had tied one bit around her tail, the others on branches that would be best for climbing.
Her tail was sensitive.
If you hurt it she would attack you until you were half dead.
So Sicily would be in no danger if she slept, so her eyes closed and she fell into a dream world.
Ryoko poked her head out of the tunnel just in time to see a cat dart into the trees. The counter overhead now read 4. A rustle in the bushes startled her. The scent of rabbit wafted towards her on the breeze. Ryoko licked her muzzle. Crouching, she stalked forwards. She was hungry. The last thing she’d eaten was a mouse, yesterday. This rabbit would keep her full until tonight, when she’d be able to fish in the underground stream. She’d learned last night that the fish didn’t come out during the day.
The rabbit sat nibbling a piece of grass. Ryoko pounced. The poor thing didn’t stand a chance.
Shadow’s Secret spotted a cat padding towards the woods (Brook) and decided to follow. She ran silently to the woods and climbed a tree to follow her from above. The only thing that would give her away was her silver earrings witch seemed to shine from the moon, other than that Shadow’s Secret appeared as a shadow in the night.
