    • Carlotta~
Carlotta tilted her head at Raven’s comment. Why would anyone become a pacifist? Carlotta was good at fighting. Why would she ever give it up? Why would anybody?
“Surely you wouldn’t!” she said to Raven. “You want to help protect your friends, oui?”

          Mercilessly destroying doesn’t help anyone.
Carlotta reflected on Raven’s words for a moment.
Is that what I am? A merciless destroyer? I fight. Sometimes when I don’t need to. Is that a bad thing? Carlotta wondered to herself.

Carlotta decided she had to seriously rethink her life- and probably start thinking before she said anything else she regretted.

  • ~Fireblaze~
Victoria bounced up and down. “Wasn’t I brave?” she chirped, “Are you impressed?”
Fireblaze said nothing, just turned away. How can someone be so irresponsible!? Then, as she watched the younger her run around the group, unaware of any problems, a pang of sadness rushed through her, almost sweeping her off her feet. Irresponsible, yes, she is. But at least innocent… and happy. “I… I, this battle was too violent,” she admitted, “It shouldn’t have happened.”

  • ~Heather~
As soon as the animals exit Koshiro’s mansion, Heather rushes up to them. Her eyes are wide with shock and she is out of breath. “What have you been doing !?” she bursts out, “No, no, don’t bother explaining. I already heard the whole dreadful story from Sheila! Fighting a war!? Why?” She shuddered at the word ‘war’ as if she couldn’t bear to even say it. “You could have been hurt! Never frighten me like this again- do you understand?” She looks pleadingly from one animal to the next.

    • ~Lightning~
“But what if the enemy attacks? Do we run away? I am ready to protect you all if we must.” Lightning grinned his teeth, he was really good in battle. He looked away and then squinted his eyes. Is that . . . Is that them? No! That can’t be an enemy, him and his friends weren’t ready for battle! He looked beside him, some animals noticed, some didn’t. But we can’t! We just can’t have another war! Lightning looked down for a second. I’m ready to defend my friends for what ever it takes, no matter what.

      • ~Heather~
Heather blinked gratefully at the dragon. She had needed to know her friends would be protected.

    • Molly~
I don’t plan on doing it again,” Molly assured Heather. “I hate war. It brought unnecessary bloodshed. Unnecessary pain.”

    • “War.” Yuri barks grimly. “If you want to blame anyone, blame me. I should never have let them come with me. This was never my intention, anyway. But Koshiro nonetheless asked for war, and that is what we got.” She points her nose at Athena, who was lying on the floor, bloodstains on her matted fur. The cougar breathes heavily. Yuri continues, “And now look what happened because of me.”

      • Molly~
“It wasn’t your fault, Yuri.” Molly said. “It wasn’t anyone’s fault but Koshiro,” she added, anger in her voice.

  • ~Tempest & Umbra~
    Tempest glanced around, breathing heavily. “I can’t believe… it’s been so long… I’m outside…”
Umbra smiled at the fox, and rubbed against her. “It’s okay. We’re both safe now.”
Tempest looked happily at Umbra, but the cub was looking the other way. Tempest turned around, following her horrified gaze.
    Tempest gasped. Oh no.
Athena was lying on the ground, barely moving. She was panting, struggling to breathe.

    • “I’ll get Elderberry!” Heather rushed away to find the doctor.

      • ~Athena~
Athena gasped for air, grabbing onto Heather. “Don’t. It won’t help.” She strained her neck to see everyone. She laughed painfully. “I will miss you when I am gone.”
“No!” Tempest screeched, leaping toward the cougar. “You’re not going!”
Athena glanced away. “Tempest, please don’t grieve. After what I did to your family-”
“You were young! You didn’t know right or wrong!”
“I’ll say hi to Wood for you.” Athena turned to her cubs. “My little ones. I love you, and I will always. And Hurricane, oh, my brother, take your time.” Hurricane felt his heart shatter.
Athena looked at Yuri. “Oh, Yuri, my friend. I will never forget you, and I hope you will never forget me.”
Athena suddenly gasped again, and smiled. “My friends.” Then she closed her eyes, and was still.

        • Oh, Yuri, my friend. I will never forget you, and I hope you never forget me.

Yuri’s muscles tensed. Her eyes were clouded in grief. She started to run to Athena’s side, only to realize that it was useless. “Athena!” Yuri tried to howl, but her voice cracked. Still attempting to wake her up one more time, she put her paw on the bridge of the massive cougar’s nose, just as she did when she was going to meet the cubs. Not a twitch of her tail, not a breath of life. Athena was gone for good.

    • ~Victoria~
“What’s happening? Who’s attacking?” the young hen asked.

  • ~Heather~
Heather sighed. “Don’t blame yourself,” she clucked to Yuri, “You don’t have to. I’m just stressed out because of what happened.”

  • Ash~
Ash breathed heavily as she walked. Her kits would be coming soon! But she had heard about this… animal town. They would help her, she was sure of it.

Just when the gray cat didn’t think she could go on any longer, she saw it.

Walking for a while, she saw some animals. Some chickens, some cougars, a dog, a cow, a spider, and some others.

Ash mewed, “Hi. I’m Ash, and I’m going to have kits. Is it alright if I stay with you for a while? Do you have a doctor here?”

    • ~Lightning~
Who is this cat? “Yes, we have a doctor, you can stay and rest there until you kits come,” Lightning said. “We’ll protect them till the battles over.”

      • ~Amber&Lightning~
Amber was walk around looking for something to do. She saw Lightning talking to a cat. “What are you doing here?” she asked. Lightning looked at her, “She expecting kits.” Amber storted, “we have nothing to do with this cat, get her out.” Amber was surprised of Lightnings calm look. “No.” What is she thinking? Sending a pregnant cat back home? Lightning thought. He flu her to Elderberrys den, ignoring Ambers yowls of protest. When he landed at the door and looked in, she wasn’t there. “Stay there,” he ordered to Ash. He searched the place. Ah ha! He found Elderberry with another animal, and gasped when he found out what was happening. “Is she-Is she dead?” Tempest nodded. “Oh, no, no, no, no, no.” Amber was walking in. Why where they all bunched together? “What are you a bunch of party animals?” Ambers eyes grew wide, “will she be alright?” She saw Lightning shake his head. “She is already dead.”

          • ~Heather~
“No… she can’t be dead!” Heather’s voice was weak, as if she herself didn’t believe what she was saying. “Elderberry, do something,” she ordered gently, but deep down, she knew. She knew what had happened and her heart was filled with grief.

  • ~Fireblaze~
“Oh, no! No!” Fireblaze murmured under her breath as she crouched down next to Athena. “I’m sorry, Athena!” she choked out, “I’m sorry I let this happen!”
Dusty gently placed her tail on Fireblaze’s shoulder, “Fire, It’s okay… it wasn’t you fau-” “It’s not okay!” Fireblaze turned on her friend, her amber eyes blazing with grief and rage, “And yes- it is my fault!” her voice shook, “If I were a true warrior, I could have prevented this!” A tear rolled down her cheek, and for once, she let it.

    • Molly~
Molly shook with sadness. “A-Athena,” she choked out. Tears streaming down her brown face, Molly thought, This should have never happened.
Molly wanted to say something, anything. Something about how Athena was a true warrior.
But she knew that if she spoke, she’d probably only cry more.

    • Carlotta~
Carlotta felt sadness creep through her. She hadn’t known Athena well, but knew that she had been brave. Her death seemed like a horrible dream.
      No. A nightmare.
Carlotta realized what Raven had meant earlier by the ‘mercilessly destroying doesn’t help anyone’ thing.
She meant that fighting brings pain. Nothing but pain.
Carlotta drew a shaky breath. How was this real?
      How was this possible?
Athena was gone- and she was never coming back.

    • Ash~
It broke Ash’s heart to see all these animals so sad. But at the same moment, she felt like she was intruding on a private moment. She hadn’t known this cougar, hadn’t talked with her, hadn’t known her at all.
Ash stepped off to the sad, allowing the animals to grieve in private, without an outsider there.

  • ~Heather~
“Yes!” Heather instantly agrees with Yuri, “No more battles!”
She lets out an exasperated sigh. Her friends were blaming themselves and acting very upset. It was hard to watch. “All this battle stuff is so stressful! I- I gotta go wash something!” With that, she raced off to check if she had any dirty dishes at her house.

    Molly~
Molly walked away from the group. She couldn’t deal with this right now. Athena was DEAD. DEAD.
She tried to forget the blood, forget the pain Athena must have been in.
    But she couldn’t.
Molly didn’t think she could take it anymore.
    The battles.
    The loss.
    The hardships.
Molly just walked, and walked. Climbed up some stairs that let to a rooftop.
Molly looked down, and thought about how it would feel if it all just ended.
    No pain.
    No suffering.
    Just pure nothing.
Should I jump? Once I do, there is no going back.
Molly pondered, and then was afraid. This is horrible. I shouldn’t be having these thoughts.
Molly took a deep breath. I don’t have to do this now. I can wait. Think things over.
Molly climbed down the stairs, down from the rooftop.
She hoped no one had seen how close she was to jumping.
    To ending… herself.

    • ~Sandy~
From where she was being treated by Elderberry, Sandy noticed Molly. The cow was high up on a rooftop, with an unhappy, thoughtful look in her blue eyes. Sandy’s beak dropped open. She needed to go check on her friend. Now.
“I have to go do something,” she clucked plainly as soon as Elderberry was done bandaging her wing, “I’ll be back!”
Elderberry protested, “But your wing, it’s not fully-”
“I don’t walk with my wing,” Sandy called, and dashed off before the doctor had a chance to say anything else. Her injured wing felt sore and it dragged on the ground weakly, but walking felt normal enough, and she quickened her pace, careful not to be seen as she was aware she shouldn’t be leaving her bed in her condition.

The young hen reached Molly, meeting her gaze intently as the cow climbed down to the ground. “I know what you were thinking,” her voice was gentle but intense, “And I can tell you, it’s not worth it.” She took a step back and her voice lightened, “You have a life to live, Molly! You can do so many amazing things! Don’t throw that away.”

    • Molly~
Molly knew that Sandy and Yuri just wanted to help. But could they really? They weren’t the ones with these dark thoughts. They weren’t the ones who had seriously thought about how pure nothing would feel.
Molly said, “Is this a mistake? What I was planning to do? And is it horrible that I was about to do it?”
      Could Never Be

      • Yuri couldn’t help but raise her voice, ringing with worry. “Molly! Yes, this is a mistake! Athena is gone, that does not mean you have to be! Please!” She pleaded. She raised her voice even more, with determination sparkling in her eyes. Her voice was much more encouraging. “Yes! It was horrible you were about to do it! You have a life to live! Do you really want to throw that away? Do you, Molly?”

  • ~Rain~
Grief tugged at Rain’s heart, so strong that it overwhelmed her. She hadn’t known Athena very well, but she’d always had respect for the brave cougar. A sob shook her as she settled down among the others to mourn for her friend. “Athena will be missed,” she managed to murmur.
After a while, Rain moved closer to Yuri and Fireblaze, who were both looking miserable. “It wasn’t your fault,” she clucked, forcing back tears, “You tried. You tried your best. That’s all anyone ever could have done.”

    • ~Leafshine~
Leafshine turned. She saw Molly on the roof tops, up high. Oh, no, no! We can’t lose another friend! Leafshine thought. She was so relieved when Molly took the stairs down.
She didn’t want to experience this again.
      No more battles.
      Not what Lightning thinks.
      Nothing.
It started to become night, and the grief is started to die down a bit. They set a vow for Athena. Leafshine woke up. She felt her pelt, hot with embarrassment. Oops, I shouldn’t have slept. Then her heat tugged with grieve. especially in a vow for her friend. He heard a yowl. Ash was there, her kit almost ready to be born. We need to get her to the medicine den, she thought. Her kits are coming soon.
