  • *Ice*
As he followed the scent, Ice wondered if Shadow and the others had made it to the hills, and, yet he wanted nothing more than to curl up with Shadow and dream of hunting mice and chasing birds through the alleys, he knew he had to do this for everyone’s sake. And most of all for the sake of his unborn kits. He would find Victoria and get to the hills, he hoped that all of the other animals were there already, or at least far away from the tavern.

    • -Victoria-
Victoria stared up at the tall tree. “I will climb you!” she said determinedly. Suddenly she saw Ice in the distance. “Stay here,” she told the tree, “I will be back to climb you.”

“Hi, Ice!” Victoria rushed up to her friend.

  • Molly-
Molly walked. “I think it’s just a bit further,” she said. “I think I smell Ice and Shadow.”

    • Molly-
Molly said, “I’ll try a vole, I guess. But we cows are really more suited for eating grass.”

      • -Sandy-
“No problem, there’s plenty of grass at the hill,” Sandy assured her.

  • Yuri howled a roll call of attendance. It seemed like most of the animals were already at the hill, but something didn’t seem right…

    • Molly-
Molly approached Yuri. “Hey Yuri, you ok? You look kinda nervous.”

      • Yuri kneaded her paws onto the grassy floor. “I feel… someone is not here. Not the clan cats or Victoria, someone else…” she sniffed the air and gasped. Behind the smoke was a scent of the missing animal. “Stay here, Molly. I will return. Tell Fireblaze she in charge of the group.” She bolted to where the meteor struck.

    • -Victoria-
“Sorry, I was just trying to prove to that tree that I can climb it,” Victoria explained, then added in a whisper, “It didn’t believe me.”
She straightened up, “But from now on I’ll be very helpful!” she promised. “Hear that, tree? I know how to be helpful!” she shouted, “Bet you didn’t know that!”

        • ~Victoria~
“Yes!” Victoria agreed, “I’ll make a very good leader, I promise! Just like Fireblaze and Yuri and you and Shadow!” She proudly went in front, imagining that she were a leader.

  • Molly-
Molly said, “Fireblaze? Yuri told me you’re in charge. We have to stay safe.”

    • Fireblaze nodded, trying to be confident, “Thank you, Molly. I’ll go tell the others.”

  • -Fireblaze-
Molly’s words had taken Fireblaze somewhat by surprise and she wondered how well she would manage. Both Yuri and Molly trust me. Do I really deserve it? she flinched at her last thought- What if I fail to get them through this?
The young hen flew up onto a boulder, feeling the weight of the responsibility descend upon her. She pushed down her uncertainty. I’m a leader, she told herself firmly, I can’t afford to be worried. Among the crowd, she caught Sandy’s yellow gaze. Her friend was mouthing something. It looked like… Firestar.
Taking a deep breath, Fireblaze squared her shoulders and stared out into the crowd. “Attention,” she announced, “For now, I am in charge of the group. You will listen to me until Yuri returns. We must stay safe.” Her voice rang out, echoing across the hill. It sounded confident, strong, more so than Fireblaze felt.
As more animals turned their heads to listen, a feeling of ambition grew inside Fireblaze, replacing the fears that had weighed her down. She realized that Yuri wouldn’t have chosen her if she wasn’t the right animal for the job.
I am a leader! she thought proudly, I am a leader, and I will do anything to keep these animals safe!

  • *Ice*
Ice followed Victoria and made sure she didn’t get lost or distracted again, and when he looked up he realized that they were almost at the hills he said, “Victoria, you are a very good leader, maybe you should lead us back too!” even as he said it though Ice knew there would be no going back to the way everything was before the meteor.

    • ~Victoria~
“I’m a good leader?!” Victoria gasped, “Yay!” Her olive-green eyes sparkled as she skipped ahead of Ice.
The hills stretched out in front of them. “We’re here!!” Victoria announced loudly, “We’re at the hills! We made it!” Then she laughed at her own words, “Made it! As if we wouldn’t have made it!”

  • -Elderberry-
“Is anyone hurt?” Elderberry rushed aroung among the crowd, checking everyone for wounds.

    • Yuri trotted to the hills, one of the animals seriously wounded beside her. She was confident that Fireblaze was doing a good job of keeping the animals calm. She walked over to Elderberry. “One animal’s injured. Very bad. Can you heal them?” She then turned to the animal and whispered, “You are okay. Don’t worry.”

      • ~Elderberry~
Elderberry took a look at the wounds. “The injuries are very deep,” she noted, “but with proper treatment this patient will recover.” She took out her first-aid kit and began treating the wounds.

      • ~Rain~
Rain looked at the hurt animal, her heart aching with pity. “I’ll stay with them,” she offered settling down nearby. “It’s okay,” she whispered gently, “It’ll hurt less soon.”

          • ~Fireblaze~
Despite the fact that she had grown comfortable enough with the responsibility of being leader and even liked it now, she was relived to see Yuri return.
“Everything’s gone smoothly for the most part,” she replied, “There were a few animals panicking but I asked Rain to calm them down and she did a pretty good job comforting them.” Probably better than I would have, she added silently to herself, somewhat surprised at Rain’s ability to stay calm and patient during something as annoying as someone panicking more than they should.
“So,” she asked Yuri, “are you ready to take over now or would you like me to stay leader some more?”

              • “Thanks, Yuri,” Fireblaze forced a smile despite her tiredness, “I don’t think I need anything at the moment, I’ll go see how Elderberry is doing.”
“By that you mean criticize her work,” Sandy said lightly, amusement shining in her eyes. Fireblaze shoved Sandy’s wing in mock anger before the two hens headed off towards Elderberry. Fireblaze stopped for a moment, looking back at Yuri, “Find me if you need any help,” she called over her shoulder. “Good luck!” Sandy added.

              • ~Dusty~
Dusty turned to follow her friend and sister, then stopped, noticing something off about the way Yuri held her leg. “Yuri… are you okay?” she asked cautiously, nervous to be contradicting someone who was higher in rank than her.

                • “Yeah, I’m fine! Don’t worry about me.” She sat down on the grass. “Just… tired. Speaking of, the sun has set. We should sleep.” She lay down on the grass, her right leg awkwardly positioned. As she looked up at the stars, and at the remaining animals, she howled. “Everyone! It is nightfall. We will stay here until morning. Get a good rest, and we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”

                • “Okay,” Dusty said sleepily, “Goodnight.” She snuggled up nearby with her twin sister Sandy as Fireblaze made her way through the crowd to lie down next to Yuri.

  • Molly-

Molly looked around. Her friends helping those who were injured. The aftermath of the meteor.
But how long would this peace last?
