However, he only knew this much later and always thought Crag was his mother. One day, Liodu was bringing back some scraps of a mouse to Crag, who was too old to move far enough to find food, and a tom attacked him. They were in a fight that almost got Liodu killed. His attacker finally left, carrying the precious scrap of mouse, and Liodu headed back to Crag empty-pawed, only to find her body bloody, lifeless, and covered in the tom’s scent. A few moons later, Liodu heard news of the journey and decided to join, leaving behind Crag’s grave forever.

He had never wanted children and was often not the best parent, but he couldn’t just leave kits to die, and he really tried as hard as he could. The only clue to their parents existence was the necklace left hanging around Fyre’s neck, and the golden band slipped around Bright’s tail. They had a relatively average up bringing aside from that, with Fyre and Bright always hanging on to life as Whiskers sacrificed his share of water to them, often becoming sick. When they heard about the chance to travel, Fyre instantly accepted, convincing Bright to come as well. Perhaps they could find their parents. Fyre desperately wanted to make her parents pay for abandoning them both

When they met Tansy, Pearl was already expecting Snakeroot’s kits and the leader, Snakeroot’s father, had died from a panther attack. Snakeroot became the leader and Tansy was exiled, so she couldn’t mess with them. After a few moons, Coral was several moons old. Tansy sneaked into the nursery and stole Coral and her sister, Aster. She took them faraway. Pearl had two other unknown litters.

They traveled the land together, and would try to avoid fights by running instead of fighting if they were in a fight for prey and if it was for water, they’d wait until the other cat was gone. When Aspen was 12 moons old, her mother decided that it was time for Aspen to live by herself. Aspen left for the more barren land, and regretted it. She met a Tom named Prickled, a brown Tom with glowing amber eyes. There was something irresistible about him to Aspen, and they became mates. Prickles was sadly killed by another Tom that wouldn’t leave when Prickles gave him the vole he caught. Aspen ran away until she heard of the journey and immediately decided to join.
