Moonrunner18173 defends Ashfur – what do you think about him?
We all know Ashfur, and, if you don’t take the time to carefully inspect him, you’d probably make this assumption: Ashfur is a bad and crazy maniac. Though some of this is true, most of it isn’t!
People in the Warriors fandom hate him. . . and to be honest, I used too to. But I took the time to carefully inspect him, and look at the world through his lenses, and, boy, I’m glad I did! When I did I was surprised because I realized I’d begun to feel sympathetic for him!
Now, for Ashfur, I will help you to understand why he isn’t as bad as you all thought he was.
First, though, in order to inspect him I’ll go ahead and jog our memories. . . by looking at his life! Warning, spoilers if you haven’t read up to Power of three.
His mother was Brindleface, who is a pale gray tabby she-cat with darker flecks and green eyes. His father was Whitestorm, a big snowy white tom with yellow eyes. His sister was Ferncloud, a gray she-cat with green eyes and darker gray flecks. In the Darkest hour, whenever the dogs invaded the forest, Tigerstar killed Brindleface to give the dogs a taste of cat blood. Back then Ashfur was Ashpaw, so was Ferncloud. Ashfur (paw back then,) was mentored by Dustpelt. Now, let’s explain something. You might think Ashfur developed some of his badness from Dustpelt, who bullied Firestar (back then, Firepaw) whenever he first arrived at the ThunderClan camp! But, this is untrue, as later Dustpelt, (back then paw,) gets used to the kittypet. Anyways, let’s progress with Ashfur’s history. Ashfur, (back then paw,) and Ferncloud, (back then paw,) helped defeat the dogs in honor of Brindleface. Back then, Ashfur wasn’t bad, or evil. . . he was just your average apprentice! Anyways, he travelled with the other Clans on the Great Journey, and settled into ThunderClan’s new home- a stone hollow. He earned his warrior name later; Ashfur. He got an apprentice, Brichfall, (back then paw.) He started to develop a love for Squirrelflight, but unfortunately Brambleclaw was also liking Squirrelflight! Real quick, let me explain something. Ashfur’s love for Squirrelflight is unhealthy. Let me explain, there are two different types of loving someone. Wanting them to be yours, or being happy that the person you loved, found someone that would make them happy, even if that wasn’t you. You get it, right? Anyways, Ashfur’s love was wanting Squirrelflight to be his. Okay, let’s continue. As their relationship grew, Ashfur got more confident. But then Squirrelflight told him that, well. . . Brambleclaw was her mate! Ashfur became cold to Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, and that anger only grew. He then tried to kill Firestar, with the fox trap! But his plan didn’t work. Then, Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw had kits, and Ashfur couldn’t take it anymore. Firestar assigned him Lionblaze, (back then paw,) as his apprentice. When they were having a battle-training session Ashfur got angry, and took that training session a bit to far. . . . Anyways, like I said he was angry and it was only getting worse. When a fire started, he seized that chance and, well tried to kill Squirrelflight’s kits.
Okay, so let’s stop there. Now that we’ve took a look at his life let me start to defend Ashfur!
Okay, so this obvious, but I’ll say it in case you don’t know. . . Ashfur has been hurt by Squirrelflight! When she chose Brambleclaw over him, when she had kits, and lots of other things. Because of this, he felt resentful, and wanted to hurt Squirrelflight the way she hurt him. And in his mind that was the only solution, he was blinded by anger.
Why didn’t he just become Squirrelflight’s friend? Well, Ashfur wanted to be more than just a friend he wanted to be her one and only mate. But, it didn’t work out, causing him to form a grudge against her, and, well, becoming really lonely. I know what it feels like to be lonely.
We see Ashfur as a villain, when in truth he’s just the cat in Warriors who’s suffered the most. Over and over again. Okay, yes, he’s made some pretty bad decisions that I can’t justify, but what did you expect him to do? No cat is perfect, they all have their ups and downs; Ashfur is no different. Cats can change and redeem themselves, and I expect a redemption arc for Ashfur.
I’m sorry but I can’t help but disagree with this article. I think that Ashfur saw Squirrelflight as an object. Yes he was lonely, yes he was hurt, but is that enough for a sane and good cat to try to kill everyone she loved?
I have to disagree. First of all, how did SquirrelFlight hurt him? I understand being rejected is heartbreaking, but she loved someone else. Also, he’s just creepy and obsessive, his actions can’t be excused.
What is love? I once wrote an essay at school when philosophy taught us love, and I used Ashfur as the subject. Actually all the jealousy means that Ashfur cared Squirrelflight, loving her. So it makes sense if you ship AshSquirrel(even though he is her uncle). However, Ash forgot that Squilf had feelings too. Like, wasn’t love making eachother happy? Didn’t others sacrificed themselves in order to make the other happy? Thrushpelt never tried to kill Stormtail, Mistyfoot, Stonefur and Mosskit. You sometimes have to let them go if they can be happy in that way. Ash in the fire scene didn’t love Squilf. He was distorted, obsessed and wanted Squilf not like as a lover but as a stuff. Don’t forget, Squilf had her rights to be with her love too. Everyone’s rights should be respected.
Oh, and he actually kicks the chance to have his redemption arc away at TBC.
I do agree being hurt like that can cause you to go into a bad state (like Blustar’s) And Ashfur began to love Squirrelflight, his heart was probably broken because the one he loved chose someone else.
Yeah he tried to kill cats. But he is also extremely abusive. And he possessed her mate. And she thought it was her literal husband. It’s kinda horrifying, I mean she thought it was mate at first. And then shoe realized it want since he physically abused he etc. so yeah that proves that he would be a bad mate, not just because he overreacted to Squirrelflights reaction, but because he is abusive. And if he abused her then, why would u think he wouldn’t abusive her before. But he expects that Squirrelflight will want to stick around with him. And also, he should not have a redemption arc. He is too far past redemption and that would be so stupid if they did.
I admit, I do agree with some things in this article but I still dislike Ashfur. Why couldn’t Ashfur just accept that Squirrelflight chose Bramblestar and just be Squirrelflight’s friend? If he hadn’t been so mad about that he would still be alive. BTW I still respect your opinion and I hope I didn’t sound so rude. Thanks! :DD
I agree with you, but a part of me also disagrees. Ashfur should never murdered any cat, and he should have just accepted not being Squirellflight’s mate and move on, focusing on becoming the best warrior he can be instead. But I pity him. It must be difficult with his break up, and I sometimes feel that Squirellflight was just using him the whole time. Ashfur is evil, but i feel that if he have a better influence, he can redeem himslef.
spoilers for the broken code ahead
ashfur does NOT get a redemtion arc he dies forever (+in the dark forest)
Ever thought I dislike squirrelflight, I don’t agree with this blog. Bramblestar is not best of mate yes, I think they should both not be mates but at least bramblestar got over her
Sorry, But Ashfur is evil. As this was wrote before the broken code, I wont go into that. But ashfur tried to murder squirrelflights kits!- Its not the kits faults, Ashfur could have moved on, and found another mate, but he was emotionaly unstable and tried to murder innocent cats, Jayfeather is also a blind med cat for starclan sake! I respect your opinion, This is mine, and i hope you have a nice day.

I have to disagree. Ashfur only wanted Squirrelflight and thought of her as an object instead of an actual living thing, he is also incredibly abusive towards Squirrelflight. (I’m still young and my teacher failed to teach me grammar so sorry if my grammar sucks)
I’m sorry, but I disagree. Ashfur was obsessed with Squirrelflight, not in love with her. He also saw Squirrelflight as an object. Also, he doesn’t get a redemption arc.
Sorry but this is the worst take I’ve ever heard.
Being rejected by someone doesn’t instantly predispose them to murderous behaviour.
You mentioned that he lost his mother. Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t justify his behaviour. Certainly doesn’t excuse it.
A LOT of people lose parents young. A lot of those people then go on to be romantically rejected. Happens all the time every day. Those people move on with their lives because (most of them) are well adjusted and that’s the reaction you’re supposed to have!
Ashfur chose to get bitter and twisted up over something that he could’ve just let go a long time ago. He chose to blame everyone else for his suffering that, in the end, was self inflicted. He tortured himself with anger and bitterness, and eventually the seed of entitlement grew inside him until he really believed that the world owed him something. He mentally gymnastic-ed himself into truly believing he was the victim here, when it reality it really was never about him at all.
Squirrelflight fell in love with a different cat. Not something that she could control or was even wrong of her. It was her right and so it should be. Red flag for Ashfur to get to angry and twisted because she… what? Practised self-autonomy and didn’t just agree to be his mate because he wanted her to? Like a doormat? She had free will.
And he made his own choice, got obsessive and continued to justify his bad behaviour right up to the end.
So no, sorry, I can’t agree with you.
Ashfur is not somehow misunderstood, and his anger doesn’t justify his behaviour. He has a victim complex and is obsessive to the extreme. Stop defending him good lord.
Honesty I believe differently, #singlesquilf4ever
