Shieldbug padded over to a pool of water and dipped his head down to drink. His gaze flashed to his knapsack, and he briefly wondered if he could get away with poisoning the water supplies to eliminate some of the competition… but no. He didn’t feel good about artificially eliminating dragons before the challenges even began, and anyway, he could win on his own merits, he was sure of it.
Orochi-
Noticing a Hivewing nearby the pool of water, the half-Skywing half-Icewing decided to go over and try to start conversation with him. And if all else fails, then I’ll just have another enemy at the end of the day. “Hello there, I’m Orochi. You?”
“Shieldbug,” the faded yellow-and-black HiveWing said tersely. He ruffled his wings slightly in irritation, but he supposed he may as well get to know his competition.
Orochi-
The hybrid hummed. “That’s a neat name.” Noticing that the Hivewing was irritated (slightly), Orochi decided to not press on it too much, but ask a little. “Something up, or is it just anticipation?”
Shieldbug was taken aback by the question; he realized ruefully that he hadn’t prepared himself for the social aspect of the trials, assuming that he would just be able to go on his own without interacting with anyone. But if this hybrid was going to ask, he reasoned, she ought to be prepared for whatever answer he happened to give.
“I don’t want an alliance, if that’s what you’re after,” he said.
‘Good,’ he reflected, satisfied that his response was adequate. ‘Firmly, pre-emptively stating my position. Not prohibiting her from talking to me—I’m sure there are still things I can learn from her—but making sure she doesn’t waste her time.’
He gave an almost imperceptible nod, signaling, ‘your move, hybrid.’
Orochi-
He looked at the HiveWing for a moment, and replied, “I’m not looking for an alliance, just looking to get to know the competition.” Orochi didn’t particularly care if he didn’t have allies or not. He would win either way, and no one would stop him.
Papaya –
Glancing around at all the other dragons, Papaya tried to pick out which he should go and talk to first. Eventually, they simply decided to wait and see who would come to them, the dragons who would either make the closest and best friends or the worst and best disguised manipulators were those who approached you. It was all luck which of those two you got, really. Starfruit had been his closest friend, but now she was gone.
Salamander –
Staying well away from the other dragons, Salamder let the heat warm his scales . This was nice, peaceful at last.
Shadowseer~
Shadowseer sat down. If someone came up, she would talk to them, and if they didn’t, they didn’t. (You can talk to her if you want to)
Comet~
Looking around, Comet saw a small Rainwing (Papaya) sitting alone, obviously waiting for someone to come up to them. Comet walked over, and introduced herself. “Hi! I’m Comet! What’s your name?”
Orochi-
Seeing as Shieldbug left, Orochi decided to approach the NightWing nearby who seemed indifferent to being talked to. “Hello,” He greeted her, hoping that she wouldn’t try to claw his face off.
Shieldbug nodded at Orochi, and, seeing nowhere else he particularly wanted to go with the conversation, shrugged, shifted himself, and took off, scanning the terrain for anything that could be used to his advantage, taking in information and hoping he could find some use for it. Many dragons seemed to be talking—forming alliances, perhaps—while others stood alone.
The HiveWing saw a herd of antelopes below, and, beginning to feel hungry, he positioned himself and swooped down on the mammals, maneuvering to try and isolate the weakest ones like how he had learned to hunt in his childhood. He didn’t have a lot of practice, though, and the simple memorized phrase that kept repeating in his mind—’drive the weak away from the herd’—gave him no insight as to just how he ought to accomplish this.
Realizing with frustration that he wasn’t going to catch anything, he had a moment of angry panic before deciding he’d better ought to make it look like he meant only to scare the herd a bit. Forcing a mischievous laugh, he swooped off to the side and landed on the grassy ground, rolling his talons like he had just pulled a good prank on the antelope. His stomach growled, but he ignored it.
As Tulip was conscious again, she felt hot. She could see red and orange feet. Jerking her head up to look at the dragon, Tulip yelped at the smiling firesclales and ran away.
“Hey, come back!” Falcon called. But the SilkWing disappeared from sight. That poor SilkWing, thinking I was dangerous. No one will come up to me, no non-SkyWing, at least. They think I’m dangerous. Sighing, Falcon sat down and started scratching lines in the dirt.
(CHARACTER INCOMING)
Nightrunner-
She woke up in a strange place. Getting up, she looked around and saw she was in a savanna. Whatever had happened made her sore, so she was glad when she saw a small pool. She trodded over to it, the band on her tail rattling softly. Nightrunner stepped into the pool and settled herself near the waterfall that fed it. She didn’t like being wet, but the cool water was better than the hot savanna and soothed her aching muscles. She kept a hiss in the back of her throat. Nightrunner wasn’t here to make friends, since it would be less painful if a dragon she didn’t know killed her instead of a dragon she knew bertraying her.
(She hates everyone and is paranoid and insane. Approach at your own risk.)
Turtle noticed a NightWing nearby in the pool. She didn’t look friendly, more like the dragon who would attack you fir getting within earshot distance from you. But after a little inspection, Turtle approached warily. “H – hey. I’m Turtle,” he said carefully.
Nightrunner-
“I’m Nightrunner.” she said plainly. “Now let me be.” She let out a ferocious hiss and slinked behind the waterfall.
(Wow, I have created a really mean character.)
Turtle shrugged and sat down in the water. “I can read your mind,” he said a few moments later, splashing water onto himself with his tail. Maybe that would do something to this dragon, perhaps make Turtle seem a little scarier.
Nightrunner poked her head through the waterfall. “I feel sorry for you,” she said sincerely. “I have prophetic powers and it’s awful.” She hung her head sadly.
Turtle nodded. “Yeah, it’s hard. But sometimes helpful.” She started to flash her scales in a way that meant it might sometimes be worth it, then realized this dragon could understand what she said, and was kinda glad for that.
Morning glanced around.
(I’ve never read WoF, can someone who has help me?)
(sure! What do you need help with?)
(What am I supposed to do?)
(Well, this is like the Tests but dragon version to become an aminus[I hope that’s spelled correctly I haven’t read WoF in awhile]. That’s a dragon who can do all sorts of enchanting. And I’ll give you some description of the Tribes so you can interact with other dragons
MudWing – brown. Breath fire; can spend a long time underwater without air[an hour I think]. Live in the swamp
SandWing – golden and tan colors. Have a venomous barb on their tail; breathe fire; can survive super hot temperatures. Live in the desert
RainWing – scales change rainbow colors, though have a normal, casual color. Spit venom; good with bows; most are the definition of a cinnamon roll. Live in the jungle
SeaWing – sea colors. Breath underwater; have light-up scales to communicate[I think it’s just Morse code with lights]. Live in the ocean
SkyWing – flamey firey colors. Fastest flyers; breathe fire. I think they live in a forest, not sure
IceWing – white and pale blue. Breathe air so cold it can freeze someone to death; can survive -0[Celsius] temperature. Live in the cold place
NightWing – black with white spots. Breathe fire. Live in the jungle.
HiveWing – flamey firey colors with black spots. Have all sorts of abilities. Live on Pantala
SilkWing – all colors except black; have butterfly wings[aka have 4 wings unlike the usual 2, and they look like butterfly wings. Create silk from their wrists; get their wings and silk-making abilities at 6 years. Live on Pantala
LeafWing – brown and green colors. Don’t really know their powers because Sundew and her parents are the only ones, and LeafWings were introduced in the third arc, though they do know a lot about plants and making medications out of them. Live on Pantala
Anyways that was really all could think of. I need something more specific)
(I think SkyWings live in the clouds and sky, I don’t really remember nor feel like looking it up on the Wings of Fire wiki)
(Hmm I think they live high up in the foresty mountains)
Aurora– (a spindrift-colored SilkWing with wings flaring a colorful waterfall of hot magenta and chartreuse and cobalt, with red and amber eyes like fire–I just wanted to say what I look like guys 😉 )
flies down from the sky and lands next to everyone else.
“Hey guys, what’s shaking’? I haven’t been following this conversation.”
(Pebble, I need to accept your character on the character creation page first before you can roleplay.)
Tulip peered out the trees towards the dragons. She hoped most of them were nice. Shaking, Tulip staggered out of the bushes. “H – h – hi,” she stammered nervously, and then realized what a stupid idea this was, and how stupid she was to think of it, and that no one would be her friend. She yelped and ran back into the bushes.
Midnight’s gaze wandered around, until she saw a strange dragon saying Hi and running away into the bushes. She flew to the dragon, wondering if something was wrong.
Tulip saw a NightWing(I think) coming towards her. She scolded herself at her bad idea. Tulip yelped and ran as far away as she could.
Mdingith cocked her head. “Um, What’s wrong?” She narrowed her eyes at the small dragon.
Tulip screamed and kept on running away as fast as she could from her fall.
Midnight laughed a little bit. “Seriously, are you that scared?” She realized too late that she had sounded very mean.
Tulip winced. Just as I knew this dragon would be. She suddenly tripped over a rock, and fell on her side. Seeing the dragon right behind her, Tulip scrambled up and tried to keep going, but her foot was jammed in between a fork in a nearby sycamore. She tried to pull it out, but couldn’t. Turning around, she faced the dragon. “What do you want?” she whimpered.
“Who are you, exactly?” Midnight asked her.
Falcon’s stomach rumbled, so he decided to hunt. No, he couldn’t hunt. He would burn this whole place down. But he had to. Going up into the air with his giant wings, he looked around for a meal. The water would be the best idea. Falcon swooped down and landed gently on the Pebble’s beside the river and started fishing.
Shieldbug whipped his head around at the movement near him. A SkyWing, he decided, and they looked to be glowing slightly from within their scales. His stomach stubbornly rumbled as he realized the dragon was fishing. Perhaps he could try fishing as well…
but as Shieldbug mentally ran through the steps to catching a fish, he realized he hadn’t a clue how to do it without all the tools on which he and his fellow HiveWings relied. Again, he wondered if he could poison the pool, this time to kill the fish inside.
Or… this was a competition, all against all. Surely it wouldn’t be wrong to take the SkyWing’s catch from them when they weren’t looking?
Shieldbug stood stock still, glancing up every so often at the fishing, glowing SkyWing as some realization snapped into place in his mind, making him rethink his earlier strategy but not telling him to give up. Not yet.
(ack sorry for the lateness!)
Falcon caught a fish. As he triumphantly pulled his fried prey out, Falcon’s tail brushed the grass and burned it to ash. In an effort to stand in a comfortable position that would make him not touch flammable objects, Falcon tripped and collapsed backwards onto the grass. Trying to get up, he touched even more plants. Finally on the rocks, Falcon winced at the damage he’d done. Sighing, he sat down and faced the river, back turned from his fish. I’m just going to ruin everything. This would have never happened if this place was full of rocks, like home. Why can’t I just be normal?
Nightrunner (Replying to Turtle)-
“Powers? Helpful? Have you gone mad? They’re a curse, and I’ll win this competition to rid the world of them.” She had completely come out from behind the waterfall and was standing in front of the dragon.
(Hmmmmm. She’s evil.)
Turtle took a step back. This dragon was definitely not someone to mess with. He flashed a sign that meant he needed help if this NightWing attacked, hoping a SeaWing saw it. “I – I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just, er, I can know if someone’s lying. It’s horrible, yes, but I can know the truth. Besides, I’ve learned to kinda control when to not hear dragons’ thoughts.”
“Well good, knowing too much is a curse, and I’m glad that mind-readers can control their powers like that.” She put her tail up in front of her and started picking at the band on her tail. She looked up and explained “This band helps remind me of the good times in NightWing history when we didn’t have the struggle of powers. The obsidian represents the volcano who’s ash blocked the moons and kept NightWings powerless. Of course, the other aspects of life in a volcanic wasteland weren’t the best, but I don’t dwell on those things.”
Turtle reached for her earring. “Mine stands for the SeaWings and NightWings. The black is for the connection and [dang] powers, the white dots for the NightWings, and blue for SeaWings.”
(comment edited to keep family-friendly – thanks for pointing it out, Dappy… mods are only human, and can miss things like this)
(Ummmmmm Wren? Is that a typo? And how did it get through the moddos?)
(Ok, glad that got sorted out)
This dragon seemed to understand. It would go against her instincts, but it might help her in her quest to rid the world of the curse of powers. “Want to be allies?” she asked quietly.
Turtle eyed the NightWing. “Okay,” she said after a moment. This dragon would definitely be helpful.
“Okay then,” she said awkwardly, not know what else to say. “Want to go hunting for some food?”
Turtle nodded. “Sure.” She flashed out her foot and caught a fish. The NightWing obviously didn’t like fish, so she gulped it down in two bites. “Well, now I’m ready for land prey. Haven’t had some in a while.”
(oh gosh I’m so sorry! I’ll be more careful next time)
(We figured it out! The reply chain goes up to 7 replies. On that note, I’m making this new comment.)
Nightrunner (Replying to Turtle)-
“Ok,” Nightrunner said, searching for some prey. She soon spotted some gazelles (I think they live on savannahs?). “How about we go after those?” she asked Turtle, gesturing towards the herd.
(or we can reply to the first comment of the chain and it will keep on going!)
Turtle nodded. “Okay. I’m not that good at land hunting, though.” He flew up, looking unsuspicious as if he hadn’t noticed the gazelles. They didn’t see him, focusing on the grass. He nodded at the NightWing, ready.
Nightrunner casually flew up to Turtle, drifting ever so slightly towards the gazelles. When she was above one, she darted her eyes from the gazelle to Turtle trying to show that she was planning on going after that one. Oh, she thought, Turtle can read minds. She pointed the tiniest bit towards the gazelle and screamed in her head, HEY LETS GO AFTER THAT ONE, hoping the other dragon could hear her.
(I’m kinda confused about Turtle’s gender, you seem to switch between her and he)
(it’s a she. I just keep thinking about the canon Turtle :P)
Turtle positioned herself so the gazelle would run in her direction. She got ready to dive, giving a twitch of her tail.
Nightrunner dived, scaring the gazelle in Turtle’s direction, as well as nipping the animal on the back leg to give it a bit of a limp to help Turtle catch it.
Turtle swooped towards the gazelle. It yelped in fear and started running to the side, but Turtle managed to intercept it. She killed it easily and waited for the NightWing.
Nightrunner padded over. “Good catch,” she said good naturedly. “Here, have first bite,” she said, nudging the prey towards Turtle.
Turtle bit off the gazelle’s tail, smiling at the delicious taste. “It’s good.” She nudged it back towards the NightWing. “What’s,” she said, swallowing “your name?”
“Nightrunner,” she took at bite. It was really good, and she was rather suspicious as to if anything was done to it, with all the magic and stuff this competition revolved around
(right I swear I replied earlier)
Turtle dipped her head politely. “It’s nice to meet you.” As she enjoyed the sweet flesh, Turtle caught bits of Nightrunner’s mind: good . . . did something . . . all the magic . . . competition . . . Turtle shook her head and thought of waves crashing against the beach on a stormy day, focusing herself to get out of other dragons’ thoughts.
“So,” Nightrunner said, “What are you here for?” She had stopped eating after a few bites, still not sure if the food was entirely safe to eat, so she pushed all of the gazelle over to Turtle.
(Wow, she is really paranoid)
(yeah she is)
Turtle looked at the half-eaten gazelle. Sighing, she replied “it’s just, I’m a hybrid. I never felt in the correct place, with the SeaWings or the NightWings. I was always teased and given odd looks. I decided to come because I thought maybe here, dragons wouldn’t judge me.” She took a bite out of the gazelle. She was about to ask if Nightrunner was sure about being done with the food, but decided against it.
“Wow,” she murmured, “I never knew that aspect of being a hybrid.”
Turtle sighed. “Yeah. But I guess it makes sense. Most my life with the SeaWings, no one except my mother knew I was a hybrid. Everyone just thought I looked weird. And with the NightWings, the only family still alive I had there was my aunt, Quietfighter. The other NightWings didn’t really like me either, and Quietfighter can’t defend me from all of them.” She pushed the gazelle away, suddenly losing her appetite.
She fell quiet, not knowing what to say.
Turtle noticed the sudden silence. Trying to find something to talk about, she said “so, uh, enough talk about ourselves. What do you think the first trial will be?”
“I dunno,” she said, “maybe a death trap?”
Turtle blinked. “Well . . . technically they’ll all be death traps if you don’t know how to survive. I mean, there are a lot of dragons here, and some dragon will die, surely.” She looked down at her feet. Who will it be?
“Either way a death trap. Some will survive, some won’t. It’s still degsigned to be challenging. How deadly it will be is yet to be seen,” Nigtrunner replied smoothly.
“Yeah. I just wonder who it is that dies.” Turtle shrugged and flashed her lights worriedly.
“The ones who die will be the ones incapable of surviving. In other words, those who die will be the ones who deserve to die,” the NightWing said coldly.
“Well . . . that’s one way of putting it.” Turtle said uncomfortably. “Er, can we get off the topic of death now?”
(Oof sorry for the late reply)
“Okay, but we’ll most likely have to come to it again in this.” She stared around impatiently. “I hope it’s gonna start soon, I don’t want to have to resort to small talk.”
“The sooner it gets started, the better,” Turtle agreed.
Morning-
Morning sat in the shade. (Interaction available)
Shard lifted himself onto his feet. He shook himself to get rid of the dust. Shard was going to the water, but saw a SeaWing there and stopped, growling uncertainty. I’m not going over there. I’ll need somewhere else to rest. Spotting a dragon sitting in the shade of a huge tree, Shard walked over and settled himself a few yards away, eying the dragon warily. I should get to know my opponents. “Hey,” he said to her. “What’s your name?”
Dear StarClan I am so sorry for the super late reply I lost the link to this 🙁
“I’m Morningflare, but call me Morning,” she replied. “What’s your name?”
“Shard,” he said simply. He scanned Morning for strengths and weaknesses, though he kept his head in the same position, making him look unsuspicious.
