Sliverthorn argues why Ashfur would’ve been better for Squirrelflight than Brambleclaw.
~Brook~
“Thank you for the help” She mumbled after they chased the badger away. “And i’m sorry for sneaking out. I won’t do it again,I promise.”
(Psst, Stripekit, they’re actually still fighting the badger!)
~Crash~
“Whhhyyyy can’t I go outside of camp? It’s so boring here!” Crash whined, lashing his tail.
“Puppies don’t go out.” Koda said, trying to be as patient as possible with her annoying little brother.
The mottled puppy bound over to a leaning tree, shaking his head.
“I’m not gonna be a puppy for long.” He pointed out, trying to stand up on his hind legs to be taller. “Look at how big I am!”
Koda stifled a laugh. Crash’s head wouldn’t even reach the lowest branch of the vine covered tree.
“Sorry little brother.” She barked softly. “I’m going to asked Alpha if I can go on a hunting patrol. She padded away before Crash could protest.
Being left along, the brown and black puppy sighed.
I wish I had other friends to play with instead of Koda. He thought sadly. But I’m too shy to make any.
Alpha~
“Crash! Get to safety with the other pups!” Alpha called. “You don’t want to get hurt by the badger!”
Beta~
“All pups, follow Swan outside the camp!” Beta ordered.
~Smokey~
“It’s so unfair!” Smokey whined, glad to have found another pup who agreed with him on the topic, “We should be allowed outside- where it’s not as boring!”
~Smokey~
Smokey stood, frozen in terror as a badger came into the camp. This was the first badger he had ever seen, and it was headed right for him!
~Sadie~
With a horrified gasp, Sadie noticed the badger going after her brother. Barely stopping to think, she leaped between the creature and Smokey, then winced in pain and staggered as its claws slashed her side. Letting out a whine, she collapsed.
Ruby~
Ruby ran over. “Sadie! Are you okay?” she gasped.
Spirit~
“Step aside.” Spirit told Ruby. Since they were the Omega, they knew about healing.
~Sadie~
Despite the stinging pain, Sadie managed to lift her head. “Is Smokey safe?” she choked out.
Spirit~
“Yes, Smokey is safe.” Spirit assured Sadie.
“I can heal your wounds, but we’re going to have to get out of the camp. It’s too dangerous. Can you walk?”
~Sadie~
Sadie forced herself to her feet, hiding the pain that rushed through her as she did so. “Yes, I can walk,” she concluded.
Spirit~
“Walk outside the camp with me. I know where some healing herbs are.” Spirit told Sadie.
~Sadie~
Blinking gratefully, Sadie followed Spirit out of the camp.
Spirit~
Looking around, Spirit saw the right herbs. They carefully mashed some with their paws, then placed it on Sadie’s wounds. “Be careful with your leg for a few days.” they told her.
Ruby~
“Is there anything I can do, Omega?” Ruby asked.
Spirit~
“I think the best think you can do is keep fighting.” Spirit said.
Ruby~
Ruby nodded, and ran off.
Swan~
The pups were going to be in danger if they stayed here.
Swan shouted, “All pups! Come with me!”
~Smokey~
“But I need to stay with my sister!” Smokey wailed.
~Sadie~
“No, you need to listen to Swan!” Sadie barked weakly. More gently, she added, “I’ll be alright.”
~Crash~
“Koda…” Crash said softly, wild fear in his blue and green gaze.
Oh no, Oh no!
A tornado of images flashed through the puppy’s mind, spinning faster and faster, along with wordless, piercing emotions, until Crash though he couldn’t be afraid anymore, or it would kill him.
Warm, dark fur pressed against his flank, and a kind whisper sounded in his ear.
“Go with Swan.”
Koda!
Crash nodded numbly and followed Swan, with the dark pelt still beside him.
The dog he thought was Koda walking beside Crash suddenly stopped and looked at Crash with ice-blue eyes.
Wait… ice-blue eyes?
The dark-furred dog wasn’t Koda.
“Crash, come on.” The dog said softly. “You’ll die if you don’t follow.”
He obediently dipped his head and looked at Smokey, who was walking behind him. Lightning-sharp knowledge striked him and he stared at the dog with horror in his eyes.
I’m the only one who can see it! He realized
Swan~
Swan cocked her head in confusion. Why was Crash looking where nothing was?
I’ll tell Koda later, Swan decided, starting to head out of the camp.
~Jessa~
Jessa leaped into battle fiercely, ready to protect her Pack and her injured friend. She felt a pang of satisfaction as she noticed the scared look that came over the badger as it backed off a few steps.
~Rusty~
Rusty’s heart pounded. Through the corner of his eye, he saw Sadie lift her head weakly and murmur something to her brother. There was a cheerful, gentle glimmer in her brown eyes, despite her obvious pain.
Rusty let out a silent whine- she was so brave!
The orange dog stood in the middle of the camp, fighting to choose between helping to fight off the badger or comforting Sadie. What am I thinking about? he thought with frustration, She barely knows me- of course I can’t just go up to her and take care of her! And besides, he reminded himself, If I fight, I’ll be protecting Sadie, too. With a growl, he ran after Jessa and the others into battle.
Alpha~
Alpha slashed the badger’s side, and it roared in anger.
Beta~
Beta circled the badger, snarling. Would it leave soon?
~Koda~
Koda growled at the roaring badger, clawing at it fiercely.
I’m not gonna fail Crash again.
Beta~
Beta saw the badger stomp out of the camp.
“It’s gone!” he barked happily.
~Koda~
“Thank the earth dogs!” She woofed.
Ruby~
“Thank the earth dogs indeed.” Ruby barked.
Brook~
“Oh no! This is all my fault. I should have stayed in camp!” She thought to herself. She new Alpha and Beta were going to give the worst punishment to Brook. “You bad,bad dog. Who do you think you are? A hunter? A fighter? No! Your a useless puppy!” She scolded herself “ You can’t fight or hunt! So don’t go out there!”
Alpha~
Alpha looked over to Brook. “Beta,” she whispered, “should Brook be punished?”
Beta~
“Of course not! She’s scared out of her wits as it is. She doesn’t need to be punished.”
Alpha~
Alpha walked over to Brook.
“Brook, Beta and I have decided that there’s no need for you to be punished. I’m sorry if you were frightened.” she said kindly.
Brook~
“Really? thank you thank you thank you! I promise not to live this camp without a dog watching me! Even when I’m a full grown dog!” She promised
Alpha~
Alpha’s eyes twinkled. She doubted Brook would be able to keep that promise, but who knew?
Beta~
“You’re welcome.” Beta said.
Swan~
Swan ran back into the camp. The badger was gone! “Come on, pups! We can go back now!” she called.
~Smokey~
Smokey hurried after Swan, tripping over his stubby paws as he ran. “Where’s Sadie?” he demanded.
Swan~
“Omega took her outside of camp. They’re healing her.” Swan explained.
~Crash~
“Um… ok.” Crash muttered.
His heart was still pounding like crazy when he wobbly followed Swan back to camp. Black fur flash towards him and a grateful whisper sounded in his ear.
~Koda~
“Thank goodness your safe.” Koda barked quietly to her little brother. She lifted her snout to the blue sky her beautiful amber-brown eyes brimming with joy.
Thank you skydogs, for keeping Crash safe.
Swan~
Swan suddenly remembered that she’d seen Crash acting strange earlier.
“Koda? Could I talk to you for a moment?” she asked.
~Koda~
“Sure.” Looking at Crash’s worried face, she added. “I’ll come back soon, Crash.”
Swan~
“Koda, I’m a bit worried about Crash. Earlier I saw him looking at this one spot. But nothing was there! I’m afraid he might be seeing things.” Swan said.
~Koda~
“Well… that happened one time before…” Koda said thoughtfully. “It was when he was really young, and after I had shown him how to crouch, he started crying and saying that a dog named Flower was following him around, saying that she was dead.” She tipped her head, reliving the memories. “When I asked him to show me where Flower was, he pointed to a large oak tree with his tail. But, nothing was there…”
~Crash~
Crash caught snippets of the conversion, words like “Worried” “Afraid” and “Dead.”
They’re probably talking about how I froze when that badger came into the camp. He thought bitterly. I don’t even know what I thought I was doing, I just panicked and couldn’t move.
Swan~
“Maybe you should talk to him about it?” Swan quietly barked, not wanting Crash to hear this conversation.
~Koda~
“I guess-I mean, I’ll try, but…” Koda said, almost to herself. “Something about this isn’t sitting right with me. Do you know what happening to him?”
All Koda really wanted was for Crash to be a normal puppy, and not worry about everything, but that’s hard to do when he’s seeing dead dogs that no one else can see.
~Crash~
Crash took a few steps up to Koda and Swan hesitantly. Taking a deep breath he remained himself that they probably wouldn’t get mad for him asking a question.
“…about this isn’t sitting right with me.” Koda’s voice was muffled in her whisper. She sounded really worried.
And it’s all because of me. Crash realized. Deciding that now wasn’t a good time to ask his question, he walked back to Smokey, his tail dropping.
Swan~
“I’m sorry, Koda. But I don’t know.” she said.
Alpha~
Alpha jumped onto the announcements rock. “Everyone,” she said, “the badger made a huge mess of the camp. Dogs are injured, nests are destroyed. I’m canceling patrols for the rest of the day so we can clean up and care for hurt dogs.”
Ruby~
“Understood, Alpha.” Ruby barked.
Beta~
Beta cocked his head. Cancel patrols for the rest of the day? Just because we’re hurt doesn’t mean we have to not do something we do everyday!
Beta suddenly realized that lately, he hasn’t been agreeing with Alpha’s choices.
He shuffled his paws, uncertain of what to say.
(Open for interaction.)
~Koda~
Koda walked towards Beta.
“Are you okay?” She asked nervously.
It’s not your place to ask if someone you don’t know that well is okay. A voice whispered inside her, but she pushed it down as she waited for Beta’s answer.
Beta~
“I’m ok. I suppose.” Beta sighed. “It’s just that…sometimes it seems like Alpha wants to lead the Pack by herself, not side by side like an Alpha and Beta are meant to do. She makes choices without asking my opinion, and…I don’t agree with most of them.”
He asked, “Do you think it’s wrong of me to feel this way?”
Koda shook her head. “Nope, it’s fine. It’s very normal to have a different opinion, me and Crash do all the time, and it’s not bad.”
She felt awkward as she tried to comfort Beta, but he looked really confused and sad.
Beta~
“Still, I feel like I should agree with her. I mean, we are mates. Shouldn’t mates be there for each other? All Alpha and I do is push each other away.”
Brook~
Walking up to Alpha. “What can I do?” She asked hoping to get an answer.
Alpha~
Alpha tilted her head, thinking. “How about you collect some of the bedding that the badger destroyed?” she suggested. “Once Omega comes back, you can help them.”
Ruby~
“I could help, too. Want to work together, Brook?” asked Ruby.
Koda~
Koda didn’t know what to say about that. She knew how to hunt and how to fight, and she thought she knew how to take care of Crash, but she knew nothing about mates. She never had one, period.
“You still shouldn’t have to change your opinion, just because you and Alpha don’t agree on something.” She said firmly. “Maybe, instead of pushing each other away and arguing, you can tell her how you feel about what she does. Then, you can work on that.” Koda suggested.
Beta~
“I guess I should go talk to her.” Beta admitted. “Thanks, Koda.”
He walked up to Alpha. “Alpha?” he asked.
Alpha~
“Beta, what is it?” Alpha asked.
Beta~
Beta swallowed hard. Alpha seemed annoyed. That wasn’t good!
“I think we need to talk.” Beta woofed.
Alpha~
“We already are. Just spit it out, Beta.” Alpha said.
Beta~
Beta said, “Alpha… I feel like you’re leading this Pack without me. You make choices with talking to me, you and I are growing apart… and I don’t know how to stop it.
“Not only are we Alpha and Beta, we’re mates. Mates should be there for each other, not…push each other away.”
Alpha~
Alpha wasn’t sure what to say. She hasn’t known she’d hurt Beta that much.
“I…I need to go.” she finally barked.
Beta~
Beta shook his head as Alpha left. “It’s hopeless.” he murmured.
Walk Without The Stars
Koda~
Koda gazed at Beta as Alpha left, and she felt her heart break a little.
I worded that all wrong. She thought sadly. I don’t know how to help Beta but oh skydogs, I wish I did.
She shook her head sadly and sternly reminded herself that a lowly hunter dog should want to help every single dog that they met.
Ruby~
Ruby approached Koda. “Are you alright?” she asked.
Walk Without The Stars
Nope
“Yeah, I’m… fine.” Koda replied.
She wasn’t though, and she had a feeling that Ruby knew that.
Ruby ~
“When a dog claims they’re fine, they never are.” Ruby barked.
Walk Without The Stars
Then why are you asking me this? Koda thought, but didn’t say it out loud.
“What are you trying to say?” Koda asked impatiently.
Omega~ (to Sadie)
“Let’s go back to the camp. Smokey’s probably worried about you.” Omega said.
~Sadie~
“Yes,” Sadie nodded, eager to get return to her brother.
Spirit~
Spirit helped Sadie into the camp since she was still a little hurt.
“Let me know if you need any more herbs.” they said.
Crash~
A heart breaking howl sliced through the air and Crash whipped his head around, looking to see if anyone else heard it.
No one did. It’s just me, as usual.
Crash couldn’t believe that no one heard it for a few moments. The howl was too sad, too loud, too beautiful, that it was impossible to miss. Looking around the camp, Crash spotted sleek gray fur, right behind a large oak tree on the outside of the camp. doubting that anyone would notice him, he padded slowly towards the oak tree.
A small gray dog was there, with stunningly dark blue eyes and a sliver-like pelt. It was almost smaller than Crash himself, which marked it as a puppy, but it was also more strong, more proud than he had ever hoped to be, no matter how big he got.
It’s a wolf! He realized after looking at it for a some seconds. The wolf let out a bark and crouched down defensively, sad blue eyes never leaving Crash’s mottled fur.
“Wait, wait, don’t be afraid” He said, trying to calm the wolf down, which he though might be a ghost. “I’m Crash, a friend. I won’t hurt you, I promise.”
(Open for interaction)
Swan~
Swan gasped. It’s happening. What Koda told me earlier… Crash seeing things…
She walked up to the pup. “Crash. Crash! Hey kid, are you ok?”
Walk Without The Stars
Crash~
Oh no
The wolf let out a snarl, but Swan didn’t seem to notice. Panicking, Crash said. “Stop! It’s alright. This is Swan, she a friend too. She won’t hurt you.”
Because she can’t see you. He added in his mind, but didn’t say out loud.
The wolf dipped it’s silver head. “Okay.” It said. The wolf’s voice was as sad as the howl had been, but it also carried an undercurrent emotion that Crash didn’t have a word for yet.
Turning to Swan, he barked quietly. “Um… hi Swan.”
Swan ~
“Koda told me… that you see things. Is this what’s happening now?” Swan asked.
