GrayxTurtle in any other book is a good ship, but if you read Thunder Rising closely, you’ll see that when Gray Wing’s life is in literal danger from his asthma, his kits are trying to jump on him and he can’t breathe. Because his life is being threatened, instinct kicks in and he shoved the kits off of him. And Turtle Tail got mad at him, making Gray Wing feel bad. When it wasn’t even his fault! When I read this I read this scene, I was all like, “what! Why, Turtle Tail?” She favored her kits above her own mate, when Gray Wing was actually the vulnerable one. That’s just my opinion, tho. 🙂

As for that scene, I think that Turtle Tail simply thought that Gray Wing wasn’t taking his health seriously enough. She’s shown to be really worried about him, and I think she just reached her breaking point. I don’t think it’s that she was favoring her kits over her mate, I think it’s that she was some combination of scared and mad when it came to Gray Wing neglecting his health.

He did make some bad decisions, too, of course. I don’t think he’s a narcissist, though. (In my eyes, he redeemed himself during TBC by sheltering the rebels and being the first leader to stand against the imposter.)
