Okay, since I really need to be more active on the blog and because why not; presenting…:
Lili’s Weekly Book Recommendations!!!! 😀
Basically, I’m bored and read way too many books so now I’m gonna recommend some of them to y’all 😀 I’m gonna try to include as many different books and genres as I possibly can, and HOPEFULLY I’ll actually post these weekly…? ho knows 😛
Anyways, recommendation of the week is… Gone by Michael Grant!!!!
Genre : Supernatural Paranormal Dystopian YA (if you think this is long, you should see what it is on wikipedia)
Summary : Everybody is going about their lives as normal at Perdido Beach. Kids are going to school, adults going to work… you get the idea. Until, suddenly, everybody above the age of fifteen poofs. No warning. No prior symptoms or anything. Their simply… gone.
Which leaves a bunch of fourteen-and-under year olds in charge of an entire city. And amongst that, people are starting to get strange… abilities. Powers, if you will. There’s a dome around the town, trapping them in. No photos, no internet, a ever-decreasing food supply, and no way to contact the world outside. It’s every person for themselves. Powerful against the powerless. Sides are being picked. Now, all that matters is who makes it out alive…
Age rating : I would say a mature 12 year old could read it, but it honestly depends on the person
TW : Extreme graphic violence, cruelty, a LOT character death (all of them are under fifteen so…), and… a lot of other stuff. The books progressively get a little more mature, so… if you thought the Hunger Games was violent, probably don’t read.
Rating : 4.5 stars. I LOVED the series, but I get why it can seem extremely boring at the beginning. A lot of the characters are extremely stereotypical during the first book, but trust me, they get a LOT of character development throughout the rest of the books, and the storyline is super awesome 😀
Final notes : If you do plan on reading the series, be forewarned; Michael Grant will most likely kill your favourite character. Don’t even question it. And also, to anyone who has read it before, Team Sam, Team Caine, Team Albert or Team Drake??? 😛
Anyways byeee everyone!!!!!! 😀 Enjoy the rest of your week!!!!! 😛
Oops, page flip, sorry 😅😅
That sounds cool for sure 😀
😀 (hey Kiri you changed your name??)
I did!!
edit: who is this speedy dodo?
I read some of the first book, should I finish it? From what I’ve seen, Team Sam!
Yes please finish it, I have no one to talk to about it!!! /Jk 😛 I would strongly recommend finishing; I really loved the series 😀 (nooo Team Caine!! /Jk 😜)
I’m gonna read this, sounds amazing
😀 😀
MY LIBRARY HAS IT EEEEEEEEEEEE
anyone have book recommendations for a 14 year old that likes adventure/thriller/fiction type of books? for example I like the testing, divergent, and the inheritance games. I would prefer if it’s not so heavy on romance. ty!
Gone by Michael Grant, definitely (not sure about the romance though, but it fits the other criteria perfectly), and the Skywards series by Brandon Sanderson 😀
Closed For The Season by mary downing hahn!!!
You might enjoy the Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud!

repasta: who else loves reading the mandie collections?
I’m reading the first Hunger Games. I’m really liking it so far.
Yep it’s a great series! The second book, in my opinion, is better!
It’s a really good book!!
Riv, I remember you talking about a book you were going to get published a while ago, and then I went inactive for a bit and I don’t want to go back a bunch of pages to see if you’ve advertised it. Have you, or has it not come out yet?
or you could… you know… use BlogSearch! #ad #sponsored #malware #virus /j

Warriors ofc, Divergent, the testing, young Sherlock holmes

Six of crows, SAMEEEEEEEEEE
The first two books in One of Us is Lying and Renegades series (or pretty much anything by Marissa Meyer :P)
HOOOOOOOOOOLY GOODNESS you have summoned a liv to your comment like a moth to the sun
Renegades is my favorite book series ever oh my goodness 😭 who’s your favorite character??
YESH RENEGADESSSSSSSSS I recently read it, but it’s one of my favourite series, it’s so good :DD
My favourite character is definitely Nova, though I also like Adrian, Oscar, and Ruby, hbu?
ALSO THE EPILOGUE OF SUPERNOVA IT WAS JUST AFHGSJLK AHHHHHHH *ignore me screaming here, I just CAN’T get over it* Marissa Meyer has to write a spin-off series or sm, otherwise the entire thing is incomplete and I’ll be discontent evermore (sorry I just HAVE to scream about this AHHHHHHHHH)
so valid!!! I love it so much <33 NOVA HECK YEAHHH she's my fave too, I love her with all my heart :DD but Callum and Narcissa are my other favorites!! Callum because he's precious and Narcissa because she's just super interesting :))
YEAHHH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!! also if there's any book series that deserves its own movie trilogy it's absolutely this one, I would so so so love to see a live-action Renegades omg 😭 imagine the cool superpowers and the cathedral and the Renegades headquarters and just!!! UGH I wish it could be a thing so badly haha
Some Kind of Hate, You Owe Me One Universe, and To Kill A Kingdom really enthralled. I’m still finishing the last one
The City We Became was a recent one that really pulled me in!
Ooh what is it like? I really enjoyed the Fifth Season by the same author so I was thinking of trying it, but I’ve heard mixed things.
The concept and characters were very good, and the vibes are fantastic. I do think some of the mixed reviews are valid, as it can get a bit repetitive, and it’s a pretty political story, which is probably part of the divide in opinions. The commentary is important and very honest, but perhaps a little heavy handed at times? Overall the book feels a bit unpolished at times but also I blazed through it and really enjoyed it.
How’s Fifth Season? I’ve been meaning to give it a read.
Oh interesting! I really enjoyed the Fifth Season- the prose and worldbuilding was really beautiful. The way the story was written was also really clever. I struggled to connect to the characters a little because it was written in a bit of an impersonal way, though I think this was deliberately done. I’d definitely reccommend giving it a go!
Ooh, thank you! I’ll have to give it a try! :]
Percy Jackson and Shatter Me Series
The Gilded Wolves Trilogy by Rokshani Chokshi 😀
Is it good? I started it, but by about 130 pages I still felt like I barely knew who the characters were. If it’s really good I might try again
Yeah, the characters are kind of “where on earth did they come from”, there’s a lot of context they don’t tell us, but the story is just so heartwarming and AWESOME ssydrxexrethynsxdffgjhmn I am still not over it
keeper of the lost cities! I stayed up until 2 am reading the first one about a month ago :p
The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett and The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson!

I’ve read a wolf called Wanderer and spirit animals
I see a lot of people saying positive things about Keeper of the lost cities, but what’s it about?
It’s about a girl named Sophie who discovers that she is an elf and dives deeper into the mysteries of her past!
Has anyone read The Monkey Paw? It’s a short gothic story and I really recommend it!
Yes, a long time ago. Really creepy, as I recall.
I read it a long time ago, it was very strange
I just finished reading The Cruel Prince, recommended by several people here. It took me a while to get going, but once the serious politics, plotting, and intrigue got started, I was hooked. I think the book suffered a bit from gratuitous weirdness, e.g., people riding on giant toads, every variety of supernatural being imaginable.
Cautions: lots of violence and bloodshed. Some romance, but nothing more physically explicit than heavy kissing.
hello hello! I’m looking for book recommendations because I am bored and I need to stop rereading Six of Crows
specifically looking for some older, philosophical/political books. I’m 13 years old but am over halfway through Ship of Theseus by V.M. Straka. I’m reading Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare in my free time (although that one requires my full attention to understand). I’m also gonna try to get my hands on The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.
have any of you read No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai? I’d like to read it, but I don’t know if it’s appropriate
I will probably have some suggestions, but say more about your specific areas of interest and what has grabbed you before in the areas philosophy and politics to narrow it down a bit.
anything really; mostly I’m just trying to expand my knowledge in both of those areas.
I am enjoying the “effects of corruption in the government/people” themes that both Ship of Theseus and Julius Caesar have, if that helps? I’m sorry, I’m not really sure how to describe it.
You might enjoy reading some Platonic dialogs. They are among the foundations of Western philosophy. These are things that Plato wrote that are claimed to be the conversations that Socrates had with his pupils and other Athenians. (Socrates never wrote anything. He just sat around in the public square talking to people, mostly asking questions and then employing a kind of verbal jujitsu to show that what they had just said didn’t make any sense.)
A good one to start with might be The Apology. Apology here doesn’t mean what it does today. It is Socrates defense at his trial, when he was charged with corrupting the youth of Athens. (He lost the case and was executed.)
thank you! I’ll go check those out.
hunch tells me you’d like Gabriel Garcia Marquez. fantastical postcolonial short stories. I found them more understandable than when I tried to read Metamorphosis in high school
if you’re enjoying your Julius Caesar, try King Lear. deals with power, authority, the right to rule, man vs. nature/man vs. man/man vs. himself, just like Caesar
thanks for the recommendations!! I’ll look into them 🙂
anyone read “In the shadow of the wolf queen”? I’m gonna start soon!
Can anyone give me some book recommendations?
What kinds of books do you like?
