Housekeeping Rules
- Include content warnings if necessary! This can be things like graphic violence, death, sexual content, etc. If you wouldn’t recommend it to a young kid without warning them what’s coming, then include content warnings!
- Try to keep non-book chatter out of this page! It can be redirected to the Tavern.
- Try to keep Warrior Cats chatter out of this page! We’re here to highlight books aside from the cats we know and love, so you can head over to the Sunning Patch or the Elder’s Den to discuss Warrior Cats!
- Fanfiction recommendations are allowed but fanfiction advertisements are not! This means that while you can recommend someone or your own fanfiction to other people, you cannot announce or remind people of a new chapter release on this page. You may do so on the Fan Fiction page.
I tried Kira-Kira after Miso recommended it, and I loved it so much! If anybody has read it who’s your fav character and why?
I really loved Katie and Lynn, especially the relationship between the two of them, but some bits were so SAD!
Question Miso: Is there as sequel to it?
Edit: Page Flip?
I haven’t read it but it sounds cool!!!
Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has read any Shakespeare? Because I actually enjoy reading his plays and poems. For starters, I know that this seems very basic, but try reading Romeo and Juliet. Itโs known to be a bit easier to read than some of his later works and there are some really funny parts in the first half. Notice how most of the characters share one brain cell.
I’m reading Hamlet rn! I also watched a movie version of Much Ado About Nothing and Merchant of Venice, and I once played in Comedy of Errors, but the script was a shorter version! After finishing Hamlet, I’m going to look for some more to read! Although I would maybe recommend starting with one of his comedies instead!
I read Romeo and Juliet for school, but I didn’t like it much ๐ I’ve also read Hamlet, Macbeth, and Julius Caesar on my own and enjoyed those a lot more, and I’ve seen Much Ado About Nothing and liked it decently.
I’ve read Much Ado About Nothing for English!!
I’ve read and watched A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet for school. I didn’t really love either story, but I enjoyed Benvolio in R&J, and the scene in the modern version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream where Demetrius briefly gets spelled into falling in love with Lysander was pretty funny.
I’m reading Julius Caesar, though I have to pace myself because it’s the book I read at school (for fun) and one of the only approved ones. It’s really good so far, and knowing the historical aspects makes it so enjoyable.
i’ve read and watched romero and juliet, and i’ve actually performed a midsummer night’s dream!! i played bottom, which i’m really proud of :]
I’ve not read any shakespeare but I’ve been in A Midsummer Nights Dream! I played Titania ๐
Has anyone read the Tattooist of Auschwitz? I’m reading it now, and my mum says that’s it really sad, since she watched the movie. (Which is quite obvious, given the topic it is about but still ๐) Has anyone else read it, and if so, what do you think of it?
I read it a long time ago. I don’t recall the details since it’s been a while, but I remember finding it very sad and moving.
i’ve been in a bit of a reading slump but then my mom added a bunch of books to my kindle and i’ve been saved ๐
so far i’ve read the main selection trilogy and LOVED it alkjashdfjh i can’t describe it but it’s basically dystopian romance with plot twists, heartbreak, and the infamous love triangle ahaha but it was so well written i love the characters sm
i’m currently waiting to start the final everneath book, again I don’t have the brainpower to describe it but it kinda is like a less mature, more complicated twilight ๐
do you guys have any recommendations for like teen/ya dystopian or fantasy romance?
I’ve read the first Selection book!! It was pretty good! Who’s your favourite character?
Hunger Games (romance isn’t the main / a big focus but it’s still there) and Throne of Glass!
seconding throne of glass ^^ (is seconding a word? like second but as a verb? idk ๐ )
i’ve heard it used a lot, yeah! not sure if it’s stated in an official dictionary but it’s used a ton
update – it is totally a thing my brain malfunctioned ahaha
uhh i loved all of the characters but if I had to choose one, probably america or marlee, celeste’s redemption arc was pretty good tho
ooh i’ll have to check those out!
In terms of dystopia:
– The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
– Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve
In terms of romance:
– Six Crimson Cranes or Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
– Sabriel by Garth Nix (not 100% a romance but has a strong romance subplot and has dystopian elements too).
Renegades. Itโs about superheroes, and there is a romance between the two main characters. Itโs also a trilogy
– heartless by marissa meyer <3
– caraval by stephanie garber <3
– (this one is kinda a mix of both sci-fi and fantasy, idk how to describe it but it's good :P) the other side of the sky by megan spooner and amie kaufman <3
– one dark window by rachel gillig (a bit more mature and darker but still ya) <3
– divine rivals by rebecca ross <3
– i've heard aurora rising by jay kristoff and amie kaufman (#1 of the aurora cycle) is a pretty good one, but i haven't been able to get my hands on it yet
– scythe by neal shusterman (i also haven't been able to read it yet but i read a sample and it's gooddd)
– iron widow by xiran jay zhou (!!warning!! kinda mature and pretty violent, read at your own risk)
– illuminae by amie kaufman and jay kristoff (it's in the form of letters, files, interview transcripts, emails, diary entries, etc. i found the idea fun and the plot was good, but i just wasn't that used to the format so it was a dnf)
this got long lol
Iron Widow is soooo good, I finished the whole thing in one day and most of that was between 12 am – 3 am ๐ Have you read the sequel by any chance? I need to get my hands on it soon, hopefully it’s as good as the first book
Also, Heartless is fantastic! My friend read it as her first Marissa Meyer and she was shattered by the end (as was I)
actually i read iron widow as a young little fifth grader who had no idea what she was going into ๐ i remember loving it, but thinking it was a bit too dark for me. i’ve recently been trying to get my hands on it again; it was sooo good from what i read!! the cover art and diagrams inside are all so intricate and well made too ๐
omg yes heartless was amazing!! the ending broke me too ๐ญ๐ญ but it adds such an amazing backstory to the queen of heart’s life; i adored that book <33 you have an excellent taste in literature my friend ๐
I would recommend Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros as a really really good romantasy read, but I would ask your parents before reading it and also I’d look into it on Common Sense Media :3
it sounds amazinggg definitely adding to the tbr list
from what I know about the Fourth Wing, it has *some* sexual content, so I’m just going to suggest that this is a book for older readers
it has some pretty explicit sexual content yes, so I would advise 16+ for this one
Didnโt Ivorypaw explicitly ask for fantasy romance though? ๐ค Of course, Iโm not saying including content warnings is wrong.
Romance can (and does!) exist without sexual content, and vice-versa. ^^ One doesn’t always guarantee the other!
Lots of romance books (luckily) don’t include sexual content, like, Warriors has a bit of romance as well but there isnโt any sexual content
yeah that’s why i advised to talk to parents first before reading :3
yeah! just seconding your message ๐
ohh gotcha ๐
Uhh the song of achilles ๐ Not really fantasy but achilles was a demigod and there is romance sooo
-Renegades by Marissa Meyer (there’s some violence and minor language but I don’t remember anything too bad)
-Scythe by Neal Shusterman (again, violence/language but I don’t believe there’s anything too inappropriate)
-The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (violence and some minor language)
-The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (violence, some language, a bit of sexual content iirc)
-The Hunger Games (definitely quite a bit of violence/gore and a bit of language)
uhh that’s all I have off of the top of my head I know I’ve read more but my brain is kinda short circuiting today haha๐ญ
You should check out Powerless! It’s a fantasy dystopia and romance is a huuuge part of it!
Does anyone like Percy jaxson?๐ฑ
I used to be obsessed with that series! Who’s your favorite character?
I have some friends at school who adore it. I, however, have not read the books nor watched the series
yep!! i read the first series last year and i liked it a lot :>
I watched the new(ish ig) tv series but never read the books… honestly I’ve been meaning to :33
yes! ive only read the first book and most of the second one tho ๐
Okay, so Iโm rereading some childhood favorites, and I just reread The Cricket in Times Square. Would HIGHLY recommend. Sure, some of the illustrations arenโt really my style, but the storyline weaves a beautiful perspective on music and, well, I just really want to read the sequel at this point.
Also, has anyone read The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt? It seems like most people I know havenโt even heard about it ๐ Imma leave now before I start ranting about how good it isโฆ
I read it! I didn’t really like it ๐ but I don’t remember it so i feel like if I gave it another chance i would like it bc i read it y e a r s ago
(Whatโs โitโ? The Wednesday Wars or The Cricket in Times Square? :P)
I LOVED GLASS GIRL BY KATHLEEN GLASGLOW SO FREAKING MUCH!! Trigger warning of SH, suicide, alcohol, drugs, cussing.
Can I also talk about Warrior Cats here or is there a separate page for that?
There are! You can talk about Warriors on the Sunning Patch or Elders’ Den! :DD
you can go over to the sunning patch or elder’s den for wc conversation! C:
both the sunning patch and the elder’s den are for that <3
The Sunning Patch and the Elder’s Den are used for Warriors discussion! This place is for non-Warriors books ๐
I’m new, sorry ๐
It’s no problem! Never worry about asking for help! :DD
Nws! Everyone makes mistakes โฅ
Is anyone else here a fan of Watership Down? If not, I’d definitely reccomend it! It’s a lot like Warriors, just with rabbits!! :DD
cool!
I am! Who’s your favorite character?
Oh great!! ๐ I really like Bigwig lol! What about you?
My favorite’s Dandelion! His stories are really touching ๐
i watched a video on it the other day and i want to read it!
This has probably been said already, but wings of fire! Iโve only read the first five book, Iโm waiting for the next one. I think WoF is fine, just watch out for those death scenes which can be a little gruesome, but no worse than warriors.
I love Wings of Fire! What’s your favorite character? Mine’s Sunny ๐
no moony but I love Glory, Quibli and Dune!
