Since the cat is out of the bag, so to speak, about my identity as a composer, I just submitted two of my pieces from my first solo album, Uncommon Practice.
“Paradigms Lost” is a sort of polymetric “prog-rock-y” thing I wrote in the ’80s, which I think might be “relatable.”
“Bodhisattvas in Berkeley—Mu!” may be the weirdest thing I ever composed.

Pulled up the album on Spotify and listened to Paradigms Lost; very fun song! Reminds me of all the pieces our percussion class plays, and I really enjoyed the rhythms of the snare and crash. It sounds like there’s lots of synthesizer going on, too, which is pretty cool
After making this comment (coming back to edit) Contrapunctus 1.01 came on and I REALLY like this one. It’s still going as I write this, but it reminds me of music I like from the games UNDERTALE and DELTARUNE. I love how soulful and pretty this one is. My favorite so far, though I haven’t listened to the whole album yet. Has a bit of a medieval vibe the farther I get into it

to anyone who composes/arranges music, do you know which platforms are best to use? i currently use noteflight to arrange and compose my pieces, but im restricted from doing a lot of things because i dont have noteflight premium, which im probably not going to get now or really ever.
i’ve arranged mysic before, and i use musescore! it’s also what my school uses in music class for compositions 😀 it’s very good and versatile, the soundfonts aren’t fantastic and it can lag a bit but it is pretty cool! and it’s free which is lovely 🙂
The answer is the always popular “it depends.” What do you want to do, produce sound files that people will listen to as the final product? produce notated music that live musicians will play? How much money are you willing to spend?
I use MOTU Digital Performer as my DAW and MIDI sequencer, with a number of “plug-in” instrument libraries and synthesizers. My notation program is Dorico. I’m not sure I would choose DP if I was starting today, but I’ve been using it for 20+ years and am used to it. There are some free DAWs out there (just Google), but I haven’t used any of them and can’t speak to their quality.

Is anyone else here a fan of the artist Griff? She’s a British pop singer who me and my mom both adore, I saw her in concert for my most recent birthday. She’s really good if y’all don’t know her go check her out!!!
Also here’s a random song (not by Griff) that I’ve been obsessed with. It’s called Roses by Jenna Raine. Not sure how long ago it came out but she recently (like last November?) came out with a collab version of the song with her and Avery Anna. Some of the words are different, but it’s the version I heard first and I think it’s way better than the original, so whether you’ve heard the original version of Roses or not, go check it out (Make sure to click on the one that says “feat.
