Pepe is one of my pet chickens. She is my most cuddly chicken and loves being petted and sitting on my lap. Because of a health condition, Pepe lives inside the house. She seems to really enjoy life indoors. She sleeps in a crate in my room and during the day she wanders around the house wherever she likes. Every day we take her outside with supervision.
Pepe is also very smart, and I’ve even trained her to do a few tricks. She has a strong personality, too- sweet but a little feisty.
Pepe is a wonderful chicken and she is very loved. <3

Chickens roll around in the dust to clean themselves. It’s called “dust-bathing”.
When Pepe was little she would dust-bathe in my hand. It was so cute!

She has ascites. She’s also had some secondary conditions, including bumblefoot (which is an infection of her foot), and at one point a respiratory infection, but we managed to treat those.

How did you get her? I want a pet chicken now… <3
I got her from a hatchery as a baby chick. There are many hatcheries that sell chicks- the one I got Pepe from is called My Pet Chicken.
Hatcheries ship chicks to you through the mail (with a heater and quick shipping so that they don’t get cold on the way), but you can also get chicks from a feed store or tractor supply store.

Pepe has an egg in her nest (not her egg- it’s from another chicken and we gave it to her) and she treasures it very much. Whenever she lies down she carefully tucks it under her feathers. She takes care of it so gently, it’s adorable! <3
