Hi, kits, apprentices, warriors, elders, medicine cats! 😀
My favorite character, Feathertail might not have a lot of spotlight in the books, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t an interesting character with lots of fascinating facts about her. I’ve been scanning many books, websites, and videos for the past few days, hunting down and collecting some cool things about my fluffy friend. 🙂
A big thank you to Pinestripe for inspiring me!! Pinestripe wrote an article called Fun Facts about Honeyfern! It was really fun to read and I learned so much about that character; I didn’t even know a minor cat like Honeyfern could have so many interesting facts about them!

-Secrets of the Clans, page 44

1. Feathertail has RiverClan, WindClan, ThunderClan, and SkyClan blood
Feathertail has RiverClan blood through her mother, Silverstream, ThunderClan blood through her father, Greystripe, WindClan blood through Reedfeather, the father of her grandmother, Willowbreeze, and SkyClan blood through her grandmother Willowpelt who’s sister is Spottedleaf who is mentioned to be a descendant from Gorseclaw and Spottedpelt, two SkyClan warriors.
The only blood Feathertail doesn’t have is ShadowClan blood.

2. In Forest of Secrets it was said that Greenflower would nurse Feathertail. However, Mosspelt is the queen that raised and nursed Feathertail and her brother.
Mosspelt became the adoptive mother of Feathertail after her real mother died at her kitting. Mosspelt nursed and raised Feathertail and her brother, giving them the gentle love and care they needed. Goldenflower nursed Feathertail while she was in ThunderClan.

3. Feathertail was named for her plumy tail.
Feathertail’s tail is unusually fluffy and bushy, something Leopardstar couldn’t ignore when giving Feathertail her warrior name!

4. In Cats of the Clans and The Ultimate Guide, it is mistakenly said that Feathertail was mentored by Stonefur instead of Mistystar.
Mistystar, back then Mistyfoot mentored Feathertail, and later took over the role of a mentor for Stormfur too when the three half-Clan cats took refuge in ThunderClan from Tigerstar’s cruel regain in TigerClan.

5. She was mistakenly described with a flecked grey pelt without stripes
This happened in Crookedstar’s Promise and Leopardstar’s Honor.

6. She has been mistakenly described with amber eyes
Feathertail has liquid blue eyes, the color of the sky.

7. She is mistakenly called a WindClan cat in The Ultimate Guide
While Feathertail does have some WindClan blood, she is definitely a warrior of RiverClan!

8. In the 2007 field guide, Secrets of the Clans, Feathertail gives a tour of the forest territory RiverClan camp.
She does a great job of it too! I love how well she describes the atmosphere of each place in the camp.

9. Jayfeather is technically named after Feathertail
Jayfeather was named after his father, Crowfeather by Leafpool. Crowfeather requested his name to be Crowfeather after Feathertail at his own naming ceremony.

10. Feather of Flying Hawk is also names after Feathertail
One of Feathertail’s nephews is named after her by her brother, Stormfur.

11. Feathertail was the only cat to have compassion mentioned as one of her virtues during her warrior ceremony.
Her other virtue was bravery, probably for surviving through the hard times of Tigerstar and Scourge.

12. Feathertail is related to multiple leaders. (Crookedstar, Cloudstar, Stoneteller, Bramblestar, Pinestar, Tigerstar, Firestar, Bluestar, Tigerstar 2, etc.)
Feathertail is probably related to many more; too much to count! 😅

13. Feathertail is related to many of my favorite characters; like Shrewpaw, Foxleap, Honeyfern, Squirrelflight, Goosefeather, Dovewing, Ivypool, Mosskit, Larksong, Oakheart, Spottedleaf, Swiftbreeze, and Alderheart.
Yay! My favorite fluffy buddy has a huge family! And she’s related to so many cats I also love! 🙂

14. Feathertail is also related to a few not so great characters, and Dark Forest characters.
Feathertail is related to Rainflower, Mapleshade, Blackclaw, Ashfur, Bramblestar, Rowanclaw, Swiftpaw, Redtail, Tigerstar, Sleekwhisker, Spiderleg, Hawkfrost, Berrynose, Thistleclaw, and some former Dark Forest trainees like Ivypool, Birchfall, and Blossomfall.

15. Feathertail looks a lot like her mother, Silverstream and grandmother, Willowbreeze.
Feathertail is described to be a broad faced, slender, fluffy, silver tabby she-cat with white markings, liquid sky-blue eyes, fur as soft as a cloud, and a plumy tail like smoke. Silverstream is described to be a silver and black tabby with blue eyes. Willowbreeze is described to be a pale silver-and-grey tabby with soft fur and amber eyes. (This is also probably why Feathertail was described with amber eyes; they must have confused her with her grandma!)

16. Feathertail saved many lives; Crowpaw from Sharptooth, Crowfeather again from freezing to death in the snow, Hawkfrost from drowning, and Leopardstar from losing a life from a fox + the Tribe of Rushing Water
Feathertail saved the Tribe and Crowpaw in Moonrise, Hawkfrost and Leopardstar in her manga, A Shadow in RiverClan, and Crowfeather in Crowfeather’s Trial.

17. Kate has said that in StarClan, she believes Crowfeather would most likely pick Feathertail over Leafpool, stating that “first love always wins”
However in another chat, Vicky stated nearly the exact opposite. I’m wishing on as many dandelions as I can find that Crowfeather will be with Feathertail! 😀

18. Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt’s foster sister is Feathertail
Because Goldenflower nursed Feathertail and her brother alongside Bramblekit and Tawnykit.

19. Feathertail gives Brambleclaw a life for exploring beyond the Clans’ borders
This happens in the short story in The Ultimate Guide. She says “I give you a life for exploring beyond the borders of your Clan, for seeing the possibilities that lie in unexpected places, and the untrodden paths that wait to be discovered. You are not trapped by your invisible boundaries. If you cannot find the answers within them, then look farther off. There is always hope somewhere.”

20. Feathertail also gives a life to Mistystar; the gift of mentoring.
Mistystar feels uncomfortable during this life, like a fishbone is stuck in her throat and she can’t spit it out.

21. Feathertail and Greystripe have matching tufts of floof on their heads
This is shown in Feathertail’s stand-alone manga, A Shadow in RiverClan.

22. Feathertail’s birthday is in New-leaf
My birthday is in Spring too! 😀 Feathertail was born in Forest of Secrets.

23. Feathertail’s name translates to “Toll Farka” in Hungarian on google translate. That means Feather’s Tail. In the Hungarian Warriors books, her name is Tollfarkú.
I know this because I speak Hungarian 🙂

24. Feathertail’s family is cursed; Willowbreeze, Minnowkit, Rainflower, Silverstream, Oakheart, Willowkit and Feathertail all supposedly died due to the curse Mapleshade lay on their family.

25. Feathertail died before she could make a life with Crowpaw, just like her mother died before she could make a life with Greystripe.
This is supposedly because of Mapleshade’s curse.

26. There is an animal called the feathertail glider
It’s also called the flying mouse, and is the world’s smallest gliding mammal.

27. Feathertail voted against going through the mountains
This happens in Moonrise, when the traveling cats are discussing which route to take back home; the mountains like Midnight said or the twoleg houses through which they came. Feathertail votes for the twoleg way, saying they already got through it and know which way to go, and they have Purdy to guide them.

28. Feathertail made sure Willowshine was mentored in reading StarClan’s signs
In Twilight, Feathertail visits Leafpool and tells her that she needs to teach Willowpaw, the RiverClan medicine cat apprentice how to read StarClan’s signs because Mothwing can’t.

29. Feathertail was the one who convinced Squirrelflight to adopt the three
In Leafpool’s Wish, Feathertail visits Jaykit, Lionkit, and Hollykit after they’ve been born, and eventually convinces the uncertain Squirrelflight to adopt the kits and raise them as her own.
With it, she insured Leafpool, Crowfeather, and the kits had a place in their Clans and didn’t get banished or punished.

30. Feathertail autocorrects to Featureless
Featherkit autocorrects to Feather kind and Feather kingdom, (varies from time to time) and Featherpaw autocorrects to Feather pool.

31. Tawnypelt mentions Feathertail when she speaks about the end of the journey
Tawnypelt says that in Midnight’s cave, while she, Brambleclaw, and Squirrelpaw fell, it was Feathertail who found an easier way down by using the rocks and ledges as stairs.

32. Crowfeather mentions Feathertail when he speaks about forbidden love
He says Feathertail was the only one who understood him, and when he saw Leafpool fall, all he could think about was how he failed Feathertail. When Leafpool looks at him, he says Feathertail had the same look in her eyes.

33. Feathertail’s spirit was present at Crowfeather’s warrior ceremony
Leafpaw sees her and Silverstream watching Crowfeather.

34. Feathertail killed the BloodClan cat Bone
Featherpaw at that time- fought Bone alongside Bramblepaw, Tawnypaw, Stormpaw, and Ashpaw, and won.

35. Feathertail killed a fox
This is in her manga, A Shadow in RiverClan, when Feathertail attacks the fox and delivers the killing bite to save Leopardstar who was about to be mauled by the animal.

36. Feathertail participated in the great battle but was never mentioned doing so

37. Feathertail watches over Lionblaze, Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Breezepelt as if they were her own
She was mentioned watching over Breezepelt in Crowfeather’s Trial.

38. Feathertail has a MAP about her!

[Feathertail’s thoughts]: It’s all I can do not to laugh in her face. I’m the one who needs to prove my loyalty? She’s the one who betrayed RiverClan! She’s the one who threw in with Tigerstar! We’re just supposed to forget that? Well, I haven’t forgotten.

Abruptly, it feels like the whole world has come to a stop. Like a whole season passes between each heartbeat. Staring into Leopardstar’s eyes…seeing the pain, the fear…the sacrifice. No matter what she’s done in the past..she’s willing to give up one of her lives for mine now. And I know…there’s no way I’m going to let her.
