Much better than the trashy jinx, I actually had whiteout instead of a relatively dry paint pen and when you push down on the tip white paint goes everywhere and you have to carefully spread it over the page and leave it to dry and then it’s really obvious that you made a mistake so YAY WHITEOUT

I use (and have used) a few! My current one is Procreate, which is awesome, but you need to pay a one-time fee to install. I’ve used autodesk sketchbook in the past, ibis paint X, and I also use the free version of Adobe fresco! I use a lot lol 😛

I’ve only used Krita in all my time drawing :)) its actually a really good program for being free, and it’s compatible with most drawing tablet!! Its super customizable, and idk its just awesome :DD there’s also an animation function (that I have yet to figure out-)
I LOVE KRITA SO MUCH! The only thing that I don’t like about the animation function is that after you make a lot of frames then the app starts to slow down a lot. Like, at the point where I literally have to wait minutes for it to play my clip ToT

I mainly use Kleki! On Scratch and for animation however, I usually use bitmap 🙂
I use Krita! I use it mostly for animation though.
I now use procreate which has lots of brush access and features other sites don’t have. I have previously used Kleki (first drawing site) but it doesn’t have many tools to use and is very simplistic, so I moved on from that to Krita which was pretty good but the computer I used it on was a bit iffy and hard to load things on. I also tried sketchbook but didn’t like it for other reasons. I like procreate because my iPad has plenty of storage and I have an Apple Pencil which enables better drawing so yeah honestly it’s the one I prefer most currently.

Clip Studio Paint ^^ I used to use Adobe Photoshop, and before that, FireAlpaca, which is free and pretty good. It’s been a while (like, 7 years) since I made anything with it though, so my memory isn’t the best. I also like using MSPaint now and then for nostalgia reasons, since that was the first digital art program I ever used =)

Uhh, I use Scratch (everybody always complains how hard it is to draw on there tho lol, but I’ve recently figured out how to draw in both Bitmap and Vector! I can also make gifs on there, handily enough!)

and Sumo Paint! (But I think the smallest brush size on all brushes are still kinda too large grr)

guyyys, I finally got an iPad and stylus to draw on! 🥳 and so, I downloaded ibis paint, and this is basically my first time doing digital art, besides simple cats and stuff :3 any tips, especially about shading?
Ooo cool!
You should probably try to do some coloured sketches just to figure out the brushes, layers, everything until you’re pretty sure you know how everything works (If you already know how they do then skip this part- granted, I didn’t do it myself, I just hopped straight in with no idea how to use layers lol)
Also for shading you can either use multiply or go over with an airbrush of a colour a darker shade compared to your base colours, or as I usually (and prob not the easiest way but who cares) do I go over with a much darker colour in a new layer and reduce the opacity.
Oh, and remember to think of where your light source is when doing lighting!

Ok first, like Magpie said, toy with the program to get a feel for it. You can’t start if you have no idea what to do 😛
To shade, on ibis I create a new ‘multiply’ layer. This is the shadow layer. I start with an airbrush, but I don’t only use one. It usually makes the shadows very soft and unrealistic. I make sharper ones with the selection tool or an inking brush! I also create several layers of shadows, for difference in strength. Additionally, change the opacity on your shadow layer! If you don’t, it’ll become wayyy too dark, especially with a faint light source. Lastly, for colour of the shadow, I’d suggest using a colour palette of six colours. All of these colours are monochromatic (tints and shades of one pure colour). With a palette of purple, here’s an example of this, darkest to lightest:
-dark purple (not black, but very close; for the heaviest shadows)
-dark purple (little lighter, for the main shadows)
-slightly dark purple (almost a pure colour, but a little bit towards black; for small, barely noticeable shadows)
-slightly light purple (almost pure, but a little bit towards white, for barely noticeable highlights)
-light purple (lighter, for main highlights)
-light purple (for very strong highlights)
This is slightly more advanced, so I’d suggest figuring out ibis fluently before trying! But it pays off in the end 🙂
For highlight layers, always separate this layer from the shadows. If you don’t, well, the multiply blending mode will show you why ahah.
Always position your highlights where the light will hit, and go from there. You can play around with the direction of your light source, I actually just finished a piece where the light source is the ground!! Also, change the opacity of the add layer, or else it’ll get too bright 😛
That’s all from me! If I think of more, I’ll add. The good thing about digital art is that you can fiddle around and, if you don’t like it, easily clean it up and start over!
One last thing is that your digital style is your own. If you like to have your layers on max opacity, have it on max opacity! If you’d prefer not using blending modes at all, and colour with a darker shade like Magpie, go ahead! No one’s directing you how to do it. You find what you like, no one else can tell you 🙂

I never shade my drawings, but I do have some tips on lineart! I would definitely recommend using lineart, it makes kinda mid drawings look a lot better (I have experience lol), although I wouldn’t recommend making them too thick. Thin lineart looks a lot more pretty and precise than tick lineart, so yeah :3 I’d also say, test every feature before you just start drawing, or watch an instruction video to the platform you’re using. In this, I sadly have way too much experience than I’d like to admit :PP When I started using kleki, I had no idea how it worked and let’s say… you could see that through my drawings :PP But as I went on and figured everything out, my style became much better! So yeah, that’s it :3

Ibis Paint is a really good app for drawing, BUT unfortunately many of the brushes require membership, or an ad of some length, to unlock. You can also adjust brushes and make custom ones, and you can also find many QR codes online for various custom brushes other people have made. Unfortunately, some things like texture will again require the same as the special brushes. For just watching an ad, I’d say just go for it haha
I’m no pro at shading and most of the time I’m just adding shadows at random places 😛 However, I like to shade with a darker shade of the tone of whatever you’re shading, and you can play with those blending modes, but I’d suggest using multiply, and I’ve seen people who use overlay.
