Housekeeping Rules
- Include content warnings if necessary! This can be things like graphic violence, death, sexual content, etc. If you wouldn’t recommend it to a young kid without warning them what’s coming, then include content warnings!
- Try to keep non-book chatter out of this page! It can be redirected to the Tavern.
- Try to keep Warrior Cats chatter out of this page! We’re here to highlight books aside from the cats we know and love, so you can head over to the Sunning Patch or the Elder’s Den to discuss Warrior Cats!
- Fanfiction recommendations are allowed but fanfiction advertisements are not! This means that while you can recommend someone or your own fanfiction to other people, you cannot announce or remind people of a new chapter release on this page. You may do so on the Fan Fiction page.
Hi there! Sorry to interrupt 😀does anyone know what is the ending of Splash tail , Frost paw, and Sun beem?Thankyou for your help 🙏🏻
I’d recommend checking the Star Spoiler Page or the Warrior Cats Website, as I believe we still have to contain spoilers on its designated spoiler page! ^^
What Flam said ^^
I second Flamilton 😌
I’m going to assume you haven’t read Star, because you still use FrostPaw’s apprentice name 😛
Either that or moddo edit
Also this would be a bad page to ask, as warriors stuff is not meant for this page 😉
(Not us :P)
I haven’t read ASC so no sorry!!!
ooh Silv lyric buddies? :DD
OOOOH YESSSS 🎄💚❤️
I also love the Seven lyric as well :DDD
Ooh yes I love that lyric sm
It’s just so poetic for some reason
It isss fr!! I also love the “are there still beautiful things?” lyric and the chorus ❤️
What are your favourite Taylor Swift songs?
hmm I can’t choose but I’ve been getting into epiphany and hoax!!
Hey!!! So I read a WHOLE lot (like 26 finished books this year, and I know it doesn’t seem like a lot but they were all like 600 pages and im a junior in high school with way too much homework lol) but I can never find any good like YA or Adult books focused around ballet, I’ve read The Walls Around Us, which was a great book, weird as heck, but great, and so as a dancer I would love some recs on YA/Adult Fiction novels focused around ballet? is that too niche a topic? it might be lol, sorry
I’m not sure, sorry, but The Striker by Ana Huang is a romance book about a ballerina and a football player, I think. I’ve never read it so I can’t tell you if it’s any good, but if you read it, let me know what you think :))
ooooooo interesting thank you Silvvvvvvv, gonna go find that now!
Anyone here read Land of Stories?
(If you’ve read it, read the prequel! )
AHHHHHHHH YES YES YES I loved that series as a kid, they were so goodddddd
I used to be quite fond of those back in the day! I don’t remember if I read the prequel or not though
oh yeah i read it in 5th grade but was honestly never too fond of it 😛 from what i remember, i kept finding grammatical errors? i’m doubting my 5th grade self was that observant or good at finding errors as a professional editor, but it was awhile ago so idk 😛
I’ve read it!
I read the prequels as soon as they came out. Great series!
I read Land of Stories!! It was good series even though it was super duper long
I don’t think so! What’s it about?
I read the first two books in fifth grade! I forget why I stopped though
Yeeeeeeesssss!!!
I have the first two books on my bookshelf irl 😛
Can anyone recommend to me books centered around cat-like aliens, quadroped preferably, not anthromorphic?
My life as a cat by Charlie Sorosiak! It follows an alien stuck in a cat’s body.
^^
The Cat (simply called “Cat”) in The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa might qualify. I wouldn’t say it’s an alien. It looks like an ordinary cat, but it speaks (presumably Japanese in the original), and it can open up portals in space/time.
Did anyone here ever read those unofficial Minecraft books? I started rereading a series a few days ago and my gosh the nostalgia
Some notable ones for me are Diary of a Surfer Villager, Baby Zeke, and Dave the Villager
please tell me I’m not the only one
My brother has read the official Minecraft books, though they’re not the same thing 😛
I’m really new to the minecraft community so not yet 😛
There’s a one I know called diary of a 8-bit warrior.
I would recommend it but it is unofficial.
Aaah I remember that one! I remember it was really popular
AAAH I used to LOVE diary of an 8-bit warrior! (Maybe I still do…)
I’ve read those! Sometimes they could be so weird tho!
I haven’t, but those sound super cool!
I’ve read the minecraft: the island trilogy!
What book(s) are you reading right now?
I’m reading Siege and Storm, by Leigh Bardugo.
After that, I’m looking forward to read Ruin and Risning (Leigh Bardugo), The Cruel Prince (Holly Black) and The Worst Perfect Moment (Shivaun Plozza).
How about you?
I’m currently re-reading KotLC for like the millionth time, I mean what can I say? KotLC is the BEST. I’m also probs gonna get some books for Christmas, so I’m looking forward to reading them, and right now my in-bed book is the first nevermoor book ( a in-bed book is a book I read because my parents did something to my kindle so it won’t let me read past 9:05 pm, (but on the plus side, it wakes up at 6:00!)). And I’ve been TRYING to read TPB again, but they’re just SO SLOW-PACED its annoying:<
I’ve got a few things on the go:
– Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson (the finale of the Stormlight Archive!)
– Traitor of Redwinter by Ed McDonald
– Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky (an advanced copy I got from the publisher)
I’m enjoying all of them so far!
I just finished reading the Heroes of Olympus series (two years later 😛 ), and right now I’m reading Alex Rider in the most random order ever 😀 I’m going to read Powerless as well, so we’ll see how that goes!!!!!! 😀
aaah you’ll love Powerless trust meeee
The affair at styles by Agatha Christie and Somewhere beyond the sea by TJ Klune! Both are okay, entertaining but not my favorite.
After these I’ll just keep chipping away at my backlog of books 😛 I keep getting new ones at holidays and not finishing them fast enough :’]
– The Hobbit for school
– The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials #1) by Phil Pullerman
– Not technically reading the books, but I’m in the middle of the Emily of New Moon trilogy and the Six Crimson Cranes duology (about to read the 3rd and 2nd books respectively)
– On and off reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
– I’m rereading Wind and Truth (Stormlight Archive #5) by Brandon Sanderson because I read it wayyyy too quickly the first time around and want to savour it this time (also I’m really bored)
I’m hoping to start Six of Crows and read The Broken Code and A Starless Clan simultaneously (I know the important things from TBC but I still want to read it). Idk how much I can read since I have a bunch of school assignments and final exams after the break, we’ll see 😛
I just started reading The Hate U Give and I’m really enjoying it!
I just finished Maze Runner!
I love your taste in books :O How many Grishaverse books have you read? I’ve only read Six of Crows and Shadow and Bone so far, but I own Crooked Kingdom!! And The Cruel Prince is sooo good – you are in for the best ride of your life with the Folk of the Air series! Let me know what you think of it!
I’m currently reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire, The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, and I’m semi reading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (I cannot get into that book for the life of me, I’m sorry 😭 if anyone has any motivation to finish it they could give me, I’d appreciate it sm).
I’ve just finished the Shadow and Bone trilogy, and I’ve already read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom (CK is my favourite book of all time, you have to read it 😛).
The Cruel Prince is the book we read in my Book Club right now. Six of Crows was the book we read last month. (Yes, we read very good books in my book club, that’s because I’m leading it and choose which books we vote between 😛).
I’m actually thinking of choosing Fourth Wing as a suggestion in the book club sometime in the future. We’ll see what I think of it when I’m done with it! 🙃
OOH I’ll let you know what I think of Crooked Kingdom when I finish it!! It sounds amazing :O
I need to join your book club asap, it sounds amazing 😛
Let me know what you think when you finish it! ❤️ ^^
💙😛
I WANNA JOIN YOUR CLUB
(btw idk if you’ve read fourth wing alr, but if you haven’t, I’d include a trigger warning bc it has sexual content and violence ^^)
OMG OMG OMG FOURTH WING IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME AND OSP IS READING IT TOO AND THE THIRD BOOK COMES OUT IN THREE DAYYYYYYYYS~
also silv ik it’s a slow start but omg you will regret it of you don’t read it
bc i will find you /lh /srereading kotlc since the last time was ages ago, and i remembered it being interesting! just got to lodestar 😛 but also (just started) reading one of us is lying by karen m. mcmanus, the notorious benedict arnold by steve sheinkin, brave new world by aldous huxley, and ruthless vows by rebecca ross
I’m reading Adrift by Tanya Guerrero rn! I’m about 1/3 into the book 😀
I’m reading a book called Eleven Houses currently; I forgot the author. I also just finished a book called Impossible Creatures, and it’s really good(recommended if you like fantasy).
OOoooooo a fellow grishaverse fan!!
Hi Lynn! I started reading Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco, but I think I’m gonna dnf it because I’m not enjoying it that much. Oh, and I LOVE the Six of Crows duology, it’s one of my favorites? I’m looking forward to read the King of Scars duology.
Hi Adds! Long time no see, how are you? <3
I really love Six of Crows too, it's amazing, especially Crooked Kingdom. I'm also looking forward to reading the King of Scars duology!
I’m good, thanks!
(also, I wanted to let you know that I saw the comment you made on my birthday post and I really appreciate that you came back on the Blog to tell me that 💜)
Of course 💙
I’m rereading the whole Hunger Game series
Has anyone read The Way of Kings, by Brandon Sanderson? My best friend is trying to get me into it and I need to know what yall think about it 😛
It’s so good! The world, the characters, the plot, all excellent! Definitely give it a try.
It’s super good!!
I’ve read it! I LOVED it, it’s one of my favourite books, I think. The things I liked most about it were the characters and the worldbuilding. The characters feel real to me, and even though some might not seem that interesting they grow on you as the series goes on (looking at you, Lift). They also have pretty accurate portrayals of mental illness and neurodiversity. The worldbuilding was soooo cool, I thought that after LOTR and Mistborn nothing could compare but Roshar is genuinely so intricate and unlike anything I’ve read. It’s not the usual European-type fantasy, the world is so alien and fun to discover. It’s just below Middle-Earth as my favourite fantasy world. The plot is super hard to explain, but I think that’s what’s interesting. The characters drive the plot in this first book I’d say, and it’s fun seeing it unfold. There’s a bunch of twists that seem so obvious in hindsight.
Little warning: it’s a bit slow at first, I never noticed it because I loved learning about everything, but thinking back on it I can definitely see why it might be considered “boring” (the ending is ridiculously good though, I promise)
Overall, I really recommend The Way of Kings and the whole Stormlight Archive (as you can tell from my overly long and detailed post XD), I hope you like it if you decide to read it! :DD
I haven’t, but I think I’ve heard about it on this page!
Has anyone read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?
Aaaaaaa that book is one of my absolute favourites! If you’ve read it, what do you think of Evelyn and Celia’s relationship?
I would highly recommend reading it! It’s about a famous Hollywood actress named Evelyn Hugo. She is quite old now, and hasn’t accepted an interview in years. But suddenly, she seeks out a struggling journalist named Monique seemingly randomly to write her autobiography. The book alternates between Monique’s perspective in real time, and Evelyn’s perspective as she tells the story of her life – how she went from being a poor girl in the Devil’s Kitchen to being a household name living in LA, and the story of her seven husbands that have captivated fans for years, as well as the real love of her life, Celia St James. But they lived in a time where being gay was unacceptable, so you get a view of that, as well as a really cute sapphic romance.
Here’s a quote from it that you guys have probably heard before that is iconic.
“does it ever bother you that all anyone thinks of when they think of you are the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo?”
“No, because they are just husbands. I’m Evelyn Hugo.”
No but you’ve reminded me that I want to! Next time I swing by the book shop I’ll pick it up. I did check out the first few pages the last time I was in there, but I hadn’t finished the thing I was already reading at the time and I’m terrible about forgetting to start books once I own them
I never heard about it before, but lately I’ve been really wishing the stuff I read/watch included more LGBTQ+ so I really want to now! It seems cool and I love the quote! Who is the author? Then I can look for it in the library
Taylor Jenkins Reid is the author! Let me know what you think if you read it ❤️
I haven’t, but it’s on my tbr and I have read Daisy Jones & The Six by the same author, which was really good and I recommend it, but look up the trigger warnings first!
Oooh I’ll add it to my tbr list for this year :)))
I want to read it, it’s on my to be read list!
I adore that book, its one of my comfort reads, its such an amazing book and one of my favorites
Has anybody read Keeper of the lost cities? What’s it about? I might read it so I wanted to know what it’s about first :p
I have and I 100% recommend it! It follows a girl named Sophie who learns that, despite having been raised among humans, she’s actually an elf from the Lost Cities. As she learns how to control her telepathy and fit into the elven world, she begins to uncover secrets–about the Lost Cities, about the elves’ relationship with humans, and about who she is and who she’s meant to become.
(Sorry for being super vague but I don’t want to give you spoilers!)
I have!! It’s been a while though, so I’ll leave the plot explaining to the others 😛 But I did really enjoy it!
I have! I can’t really say it better than Redz, but I 100000000000% recommend it.
I have!! If you’ve ever read Harry Potter, you’d know how good HP is. KotLC rivals that. It’s about a girl named Sophie Foster who, after hitting her head, finds out that she is a telepath. The story begins when she is twelve years old. At that time, she discovers that she is an elf. She pulls away from her human life and starts a new life in the Lost Cities (where elves live). I can’t tell you any more or it’ll spoil it 😉
yup!! i discovered it through blogclan, actually 😛 currently rereading it and can’t say that it isn’t a really great series!! the first couple books are more middle-grade, but it slowly (sorta?) progresses towards an almost ya-ish feel. everyone’s explained it pretty well already so i’ll just stop yapping 😛
not misty but i took a whole minute to understand the ‘can’t say it isn’t a really great series’ because i didn’t read the front and thought you were writing ‘it isn’t a really great series’ T-T
Same lol 😭
lmao sorry english isn’t my first language and sometimes i word things weird T-T
Don’t worry, I understood it, Panthi 😛 <3333
Read quite a bit in 2024 lol, finished two books in the span of today and yesterday too :> I can’t remember most of the books that I’ve read recently so here are some I just threw in because they’re the only things my poor brain can throw out rn-
The Girl at Midnight – I love this book sm, I really liked the characters in this one, can’t wait to go to the library and get the sequel!
Children of the Flying City – Idk but I didn’t really like this book, imo it didn’t seem to be going anywhere with the plot and I just dropped it after a while lol, that might just be me tho
The Bear House: Scales and Stardust – EEK I LOVE THIS BOOK SM AA- I didn’t read the prequel (this is the 2nd book in the series) but the worldbuilding is awesome and I love everything about it :DD I seriously read it twice in one day so uh
Nightbooks – Really liked the concept of this and the main character has a like that I haven’t seen a lot in all the books I’ve read lol- I read this book twice as well!
Anyways I’m reading the ballad of songbirds and snakes (the hunger games) rn so that’s it, see y’all!
Omg these sound so gooooooood 😀 I’ve been running out of books to read anyways, and I know for a fact that two of these books are in my school library so that’s great 😀 And also the Balled is awesome I loved it sm
Those books sound awesome! (Except for the Children of the Flying City 😛) Let me know what you think of the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I love that book and the movie is great too!!
I just thought I’d recommend a book that I’m reading at the moment: The Worst Perfect Moment, by Shivaun Plozza. It’s not an epic book with amazing characters and a awsome plot, but it’s a cute, hear-warming lesbian story about sixteen-year-old Tegan Masters who is dead.
She goes to heaven, which turns out to be a copy of her best memory in life, and meets the angel Zelda, who will make sure that her eternity-long stay will be perfect. But it turns out that Tegan doesn’t think this memory is the best at all. According to her, it’s actually the worst. She complains to Zelda’s boss, says that Zelda has been sloppy with the calculations. But it has unforeseen consequences.
I really like this book, it’s a calm break from all the action-packed epic fantasy books I usually read. 😛
Oh my gosh this sounds amazing!! I’ll have to give it a read sometime :O
Ooh it sounds like a good book
This really sounds great! If I ever see it somewhere, I’ll be sure to read it!
Question- for those who have read ‘An Series of Unfortunate Events’ by ‘Lemony Snicket’ (Daniel Handler) is the series any good? Also how long is the typical book in this series lol.
I was recommended the series by my ELA teacher since I had only completed 4 of the 15 or 20 (I forgot which) book goal, but I have no idea if the books are all that good.
Also should I read the books in order for best experience or no??
(I like comedy, fantasy, and I think I’ve an newfound interest in mystery, but I dislike immense horror and really depressing books that make my heart leap, and very awkward romance books…)
Also any other book suggestions for me? My lexile range is I think 910 – 1135??
(Idk lol, I forgot)
*I checked, my lexile’s actually 910-1335
I read it a few years ago, and I vaguely remember enjoying it? However, eight year old me didn’t really have an actual consciousness, so don’t trust my words too much haha
It does have some depressing elements (as you can tell from the title😛) but the author writes it out in a fun way!
Ah nice. Fun depression 😀
/lhj
Does the book have to be in your lexile range? Because I have a suggestion but the lexile level is 740.
The Thing About Jellyfish is a really good book if you haven’t read it, it’s about a girl, Suzy Swanson, whose best friend, Franny Jackson, died, and she tries to figure out why that happened. It’s a great book, and I’d recommend it to everyone :DD
geez death- it’s sounds interesting, but I don’t know if my Library has it (Then again it has the Fahrenheit book thing sooo)
It does have some horrifyingly dark stuff but if you can handle that then go for it. It’s a great book, but like Amberpaw said it does have depressing elements.
ahh okay
they’re ok, not the greatest tho and they’re more for younger kids 😛 each book is pretty short but there’s like 14 books in the series lol
What I need is short lol
Also if they are for younger kids why are their lexiles so high-
I liked what I’ve seen of the tv show and the movie but idk about the books sorry 😛
That’s ok!
I really liked a Series of Unfortunate Events when I was younger! I remember them being fairly short. Also yeah I’d recommend reading them in order!
Some other good middle grade books:
-Fablehaven by Brandon Mull
-The Menagerie by Tui T Sutherland
-Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collin
-The girl who drank the moon by Kelly Barnhill
-Mr. lemoncello’s library by Chris Grabenstein
I used to be very very very obsessed with fablehaven and can barely remember what it’s about now 😢
Can anybody recommend me some new books to read? I’m looking for something high school reading level or up, in the action/psychological thriller/horror genres. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest Unwind by Neal Shusterman! Not 100% sure its exactly what you’re looking for, but it definitely plays with your brain waves a lot!
I don’t got any horror reccomendations.
But I think I could reccomend The Murder House maybe? It’s by James Patterson (Who also writes the ‘I Funny’ book series!) and it follows the mystery of the murder of this one girl, and several more murders, as somebody gets accused of the murder- but was it really him? Also there’s an Murder House because of course- This is where all the murders occur… It’s in the perspective of the Female Cop character, and lastly there was some School Shooting thing at the start but I think it was an paintball or dart one-
I do have to warn since it’s for young adults, there is swearing and also some suggestive content at the start and I guess when the dude gets some Hooker girl to murder, but other than that… if you’re okay with reading about Murder Mystery, then yeah, there’s that.
Try Famous Five
High school reading level can mean a lot of things so I’ll reccommend a range of styles and ‘levels’ of horror.
– If you like horror mixed with strong emotional journeys and character development then try Rachel Harrison! I really enjoyed Such Sharp Teeth and Black Sheep.
– If you like horror that feels a lot like dark fantasy and is relatively light (emphasis on the relatively there) on heavy gore then try anything by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
– For more campy and satirical horror that also tackles real world issues in a really excellent way, try Bury Your Gays or Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle.
– Andrew Joseph White writes great ya horror, though be warned that his books are very heavy and often contain lots of gore and body horror so please look up tws before trying them.
– Similarly, Stephen Graham Jones writes fantastic horror that tackle many social issues, but the gore and themes are a lot a lot and I wouldn’t try them without being really comfortable with such content and looking up TWs.
– And though it’s technically not horror (more of a sci-fi thriller), 11/22/63 by Stephen King is also fantastic.
Drowning by TJ Newman is a thriller I like!
The Only Good Indians, The Shining, and Into the Drowning Deep are some of my favorite horror books, though I’d recommend looking up the content warnings for those as they’re definitely for warriors only (probably 16+ age wise, maybe 17+ for The Only Good Indians as it has a decent bit of body horror).
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder all the way–but Five Survive is amazing too!
