I saw a few leaks, but luckily I was able to mostly avoid them. I’m just going to try to stay off YouTube for the next few days until I get Violet and play it for a bit myself.

Okay…I know we are on the crist of a new generation coming out, but I had some thoughts going back to Gen 7. Who is Sun/Moon’s Dad?
We know that he lives in Kanto, that his family speak fondly of him, and he even lent his pick-up truck for our mom to use around town.
I have an idea on his identity, but I need other people to help me bounce this idea around to see if it can stick.
lt surge?? player has an autograph, and kantonian gym modeled after lt surge gym.. its not normal to have so many lt surge refrences
I honestly think it IS Lt. Surge.
GameFreak tried to pass his autograph off by saying he hands it out to anyone who defeats his gym, BUT Sun/Moon didn’t beat his gym before coming to Alola. We haven’t even gotten a Pokemon yet, as our mother is so excited for our First Pokemon.
This is strange since Sun/Moon are 11 years old, not 10. Kanto sends out trainers on their journeys when they are 10, so why are we still without a Pokemon? If Surge is our dad, then we have two reasons for not starting our journey yet. First, Surge is from Unova, who only sends out trainers when they are 14-15. So he could be following Unovan tradition. Second, Surge is canonically very paranoid, as seen by his gym being full of traps. Could he not want his kid to go out too soon into a dangerous world? I don’t blame him; Kanto has its own set of dangers.
Finally, if Surge is our dad, then that could explain Sun/Moon’s character. Sun/Moon race forward to go save Nebby, Lillie, and anyone else who needs trouble. If Lt. Surge is Sun/Moon’s Dad, then he could have taught these two thru his example of defending other people in the Air Force.
That, and I would love to see the video call with him after we save Nebby from all those Spearow. “Dad! Birds are evil! Can you send over a Bird-Zapper?”

Umbreon and Sylveon are my favorites, but I can’t choose between the two
I really like vaporeon and have used it on all my play through teams (in my defense it was an accident for the first two games I played, which happen to be y and ultra moon) but then I used it in my other play throughs because why not

regarding alleged performance issues in Scarlet and Violet, i would just like to say that they aren’t as bad as people make them seem. Sure it’s glitchy sometimes and the lowres textures can be annoying, but it’s such an incredible game that it’s worth it. on the other hand, i would like to say that some of the new Pokemon are forgettable and boring – the only ones that have stood out to me are those that were revealed before the game’s release. it seems they hid all the boring and unoriginal new Pokemon in the game itself so they could build hype with good Pokemon in the trailers.
update on performance: based on this (https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/yzzlcd/has_anyone_else_not_has_any_perfomance_problems/) reddit thread (probably bad language in the comments so beware if you don’t want to see that), performance rate differs quite a lot between different people. it seems that some are experiencing the camera clipping through the ground, twitching shadows, and intense frame rate drops, while others are only experiencing minor frame rate issues and shadows twitching slightly. if you play on a switch lite, your game’s performance might be a lot worse compared to a normal switch. it seems that the newer your switch is, the better – switch lite and launch day switches are suffering heavy issues while 2019 switch and oled switches get less of that.

I saw a YouTube video by Arlo on the performance issues in the recent games and didn’t even know about or realise that they were there until I watched the video.
Then again, my Switch is from around 2020 and the only glitch that I remember seeing while playing my copy of Violet was finding a Fletchling that was stuck in a fence. 😛

i agree with the performance issues! there are some minor issues i’ve experienced but they arent ruining the game for me, and nothing like the insane glitches people post on social media to be like “game bad!!”. i personally like some of the new mon designs but i do agree that some of them arent great
yeah some of the new designs are nice, it’s just that i can’t name a single one besides a couple that are in my team. i liked the one with the fire and grass heads, it was kind of odd but i liked it 😛

i feel like the design of the scarlet and violet pokemon are very different to what we’ve seen before. especially with the paradox pokemon, they look very different. i’m not sure if i’m liking this change tbh 😛
the paradox mons are wack but thats prob the point lol
just remembering when the ultra beasts were first a thing everyone went “ew!! weird!!” but hey thats like. intentional. theyre ALIENS 😭

mokyy!! idk if you remember me but i met you last year, it’s freepaw!! anyways, i feel like the new designs are kind of bland to me, starter evos are not growing on me, actually feel worse as i think more about them. paradox pokemon are actually pretty cool imo, their designs are awesome and love how they tie into the plot.
i don’t want to share a bunch of spoilers with you guys, since i know many of you are planning to but have not played the games yet! however, i haveeee somehow played almost 30 hours of violet since release and just beat the main story today! so some brief, spoiler-free thoughts:
WOW is the game incredible?? the plot is great. the battles are (sometimes haha) challenging. the characters are so, so, well done and well fleshed out. i honestly loved this game so much. if i’m attempting to be entirely unbiased, this game’s story falls second in the series only to bw and bw2 (i’d put it above sun and moon, even though i love those games with my whole heart)
also, there’s so much to explore that i skipped over, i mostly tried to speed from one badge to another. despite that, this game took me over twice as long as swsh – there’s just wayyy more to do!
one important thing to note is that there’s no level scaling, so if you look up the “ideal” or “golden” route of the game, you mightttt want to follow it (at least loosely) to avoid over/underleveling! i did that and i didn’t find following it took away from freedom/experience, it made sure the opposing mons were generally the right level
i’m debating writing up my own review for this because i have a lot of thoughts! but overall i’d highly recommend going into the game with no spoilers (as i did), the story is really something to experience for yourself. i actually CRIED at the climax of the plot so 😭

ive played about 35 hours and also finished it!! such an incredible ending, team star battles surprisingly difficult for me, characters so awesome (i love arven so much). i’d put it below usum and bw and bw2 but above sm and swsh obviously. definitely one of the best games ever!! yes there is definitely an optimal route for the game and although it took away from the open world aspect going for the higher badges first don’t give you any rewards so i would follow this guide:

yes story wise sm was better than usum but i really liked how usum looked, even just the slight graphical enhancements were really nice imo
also im biased because ultra moon was my first pokemon game
usum is def one of my fav all time games as well!! gen 7 was the generation that got me into the pokemon fandom and into writing fanfic, so i really do love it a lot 😀 i personally prefer the art style and look of gen 7 better than sv as well 🙂
