Analyzing Firestar: Why I Think He’s a Great Character! by Sparktooth

Sparktooth takes a look at Firestar’s character throughout his life.

Heyo bloggers! Sparktooth is in the house! (lol). Today I was thinking about how half of the fandom doesn’t really like Firestar. That surprised me. Don’t think I have a problem with Firestar-haters, ‘cause I don’t. I’m just confused by the reasons why they claim to hate him. I honestly found him to be one of the most interesting and relatable characters in the series. So I’m gonna analyze his character, and state my opinion on this ThunderClan leader!

Firestar was born as a kittypet named Rusty. As he grew up, he became restless and bored inside his Twoleg den, and dreamed of roaming the wild and being free. Whiling he’s dreaming, notice how at home he feels? He doesn’t mind being in an alien setting. Instead of living a soft, quiet life, Rusty craved to be outside and have adventures. This sounds a lot similar to kits in the clans. They all want to explore. So clearly Firestar was always destined to be a warrior. This courage also lead him to wander into the forest. When he was attacked by a stranger(Graypaw), he turned to face him and fight. Bluestar was impressed by this and offered Rusty a spot in the clan, thinking he might be the cat from the prophecy: Fire alone will save our clan.

He was renamed Firepaw. Firepaw always tried to prove himself to the Clan that he was worthy of being a warrior. Dustpaw and Sandpaw would constantly tease him about being a former kittypet. The ambition to prove them wrong made him try harder than the other apprentices. During all of this, he befriends Ravenpaw and Graypaw. Skipping ahead, when Ravenpaw says he saw Tigerclaw kill Redtail, Firepaw is curious and tries to figure out the truth of how Redtail died. When he becomes a warrior, Fireheart and Graystripe expose Tigerclaw’s true colors and because of this Bluestar makes Fireheart deputy. Why wouldn’t she? Tigerclaw almost murdered her! Fireheart also helped ThunderClan find hope again when Bluestar went a little crazy, and lead all four clans into battle against BloodClan. I believe he more than deserved to be leader. He was the leader ThunderClan needed.

So I’m done analyzing Firestar’s character. Now I’m gonna list some reasons people says why they hate him, and state my opinion on them.

“He broke the warrior code to much!”
Sometimes, disobeying the code is the only way to keep the peace. Firestar had always been considerate of all the Clans. He knew ThunderClan and WindClan didn’t need to fight the battle, he only asked to try making peace. I don’t get why people get mad at him for that. When Firestar and Graystripe brought prey to RiverClan, their intentions were good. No nice cat wants to see anyone starve. And they were punished for that. Plus, he looked beyond the code to rebuild SkyClan.

“Firestar killed his half-brother(Scourge)!”
Firestar had no idea Scourge was even related to him. They had different mothers. Plus, Scourge was trying to force the Clans out. If he succeeded, you could kiss the Clans goodbye.

“He noses into other clans business!”
Not much. The only time he really did was to try to warn them about the forest when it was being destroyed. What’s the matter with that?

“He brings in outsiders!”
So he let a few kittypets join Thunderclan. So what? Kittypets are tougher than they get credit for. Scourge was a former kittypet, and he was one of the most powerful characters in the series!

“Firestar never leads his clan into battles ‘cause he knows they’ll lose!”
Okay. Firetsar is just a peaceful leader. He’s the opposite of Tigerstar, who would’ve turn ThunderClan into a bunch of murderers. And the reason is because he doesn’t want bloodshed.

“He’s so conceited and gets all the fame!”
Honestly, I think this just sounds like an excuse. Firestar had never been full of himself in the whole series! And of course he would be a little famous. He saved all the clans and exposed Tigerstar’s evil scheme. Fame is never what he wanted, only peace!

So that’s gonna wrap it up. What did you think? Is Firestar now a great character in your eyes? Thanks for reading! 😀

  • I liked Firepaw and Fireheart, but when he became leader it’s like he got a life for Mary-Sueishness. I was also mad that he was the fourth cat of the prophecy.

  • I feel like Thunderclan leaders have a personality before leadership, but after they seem to be Gary-stuish

  • “Firestar’s only flaw is that he doesn’t realize how great he really is.” – Quote adapted from Muhammad Ali

    • Thx, Dawn! I agree . While it may seem Firestar is perfect, every character has their flaws.

Plus, when a character is the main character, they normally tend to get most of the fame. In Harry Potter, Harry gets a lot fame in the books, if not he got more than Firestar. Does anyone here who’s a fan of the HP series hate Harry like how they hate Firestar? I for one know I don’t, so why is Firestar any diffrent?

  • Firestar 4 da vin!!!!! He is not a gary-sue because he has lots of flaws (breaking the warrior code for example). No cat or person is perfect. No one. When I read the first 7 chapters of Firestar’s Quest before I had to wrap it for a birthday present for my best friend who loves Warriors too, I just felt so….idk happy. I missed Firestar’s perspective a lot and when I read that bit, man it was like going back to my childhood (haha I wasn’t that young but you get what I mean). I want a mate like him (someone who protects what’s his own, someone who only “breaks the code for the good of his Clan,” someone who is kind, caring, funny, and wise…..Firestar is meowsome)!
    Nice article, Spark! 👍🏽

    • Completely agreed, Fawkes! I really missed Firestar’s point of view, too and that was one of the big reasons why I loved Firestar’s Quest. If I were a character in Warriors and had to choose a mate, Firestar would most likely be one of my top choices!

  • Totally!!
    I agree, Sparktooth.

There’s many people who hate Firestar’s gary-stu-ness, but personally I think he isn’t the ‘perfect’ character. He had many flaws, lots of which led him to trouble with Tigerstar.

  • i just gonna copy another article whit includes all the reasons i hate firestar(please don’t get made at me)

    .

Hi! I’m Rainpaw and I’m going to tell you why I believe Firestar is super over rated.

First Rusty comes into the forest and joins Thunderclan which earlier had a prophecy about him (Fire alone can save the clan). Then Rusty becomes Firepaw, then Fireheart and eventually Firestar. Through out Firestar’s life, even when he was an apprentice he was able to speak to StarClan and have visions, where normal warriors never really spoke to StarClan except when they were chosen to go on quests. In the first series Fireheart saves Bluestar from Tigerstar and is the only cat that Bluestar trusts; and then saves ALL the clans from Tigerstars evil wrath. Already he seems to me way too good to be true.

Then again Firestar gets a prophecy from a cat who was leader of Skyclan and wants him to save SkyClan. Then he and Sandstorm go and save Skyclan and Skyclan upholds Firestar as their hero. Then in Power of Three, Firestar is so kind to all cats and never seems to loose his temper and seems so perfect. This really annoys me because the books seem to have every leader mess up except for Firestar who is so neatly perfect in every way.

Then Firestar’s daughter Leafpool’s kits, Jayfeather and Lionblaze are apart of a prophecy that will save the clans ….AGAIN. Then we find out that in order to be apart of the prophecy a cat has to be related to Firestar. So over rated.

Then in Omen of the Stars, Firestar is again for the THIRD or Fourth time( i can’t keep count) part of a prophecy where he is part of the three or the four powerful cats, since Firestar just HAD to be apart of it and saves the clans…….AGAIN.( it could be any cat. but no, it has to be fire star)

Later in the great battle Spottedleaf gets killed, I personally think it’s so Firestar does not have to choose between her and Sandstorm in Starclan and Firestar can be a perfect StarClan cat and not have any problems. Now lastly in a Vision of Shadows Firestar yet appears AGAIN and gives the medicine cats a prophecy “Embrace what you find in the shadows for only they can clear the sky.” And later tells the cats to use their names to defeat the rogues and AGAIN help save the clans.

I have nothing against Firestar I do like him but he is really overrated and can get really, to fake for his own pelt. Thank you for reading my 2nd article and I really hope you enjoyed it! comment below and tell me if you think Firestar is over rated and if I missed anything. May Starclan light your path!

    • I actually have read this article, and that’s what inspired me to write this one. XD. But I don’t think he’s overrated. You’ll find that I compare Firestar to Harry Potter a lot, because they’re really similiar. But Firestar gets some hate while Harry gets none (that I know of). So what’s the difference? Firestar also never intended to be part in ANY prophecy, so if you want to blame someone, blame StarClan for choosing Firestar to be part of prophecies. Plus other cats get dreams from StarClan who aren’t medicine cats or leaders, Crowfeather, Feathertail, Tawnypelt, Bramblestar (but he did get dreams from StarClan when he was a warrior), Lionblaze, Hawkfrost, etc. So there are all these characters who have special powers or traits in the series, and Firestar is hated for ‘having too much of them.’ Why…?

  • I’m not the biggest fan of him and I feel like he was kind of OP. If he got in trouble with the Warrior Code, it usually worked out pretty easily for him and in OotS, he didn’t need to be the fourth cat at all. I don’t hate him, and I can see why so much revolves around him, but I personally don’t like it. (Great article though. 🙂 )
