Nightpaw takes a look at some cats whose names do not fit them well.

Hi, everyone! I’m Nightpaw and today I’ll be talking about warrior names that are NOT a good match for the warrior.
Aside from the unique SkyClan names, there are lots of normal warrior names that are not a good physical or mental description of the warrior. I’ll be walking you through five of them.
Number 5: Bristlefrost. Bristling can signalize anger, like when the “hair on the back of a cat’s pelt bristles.” Frost can signalize a chilling and cold tone, often when those who are evil speaks. Bristlefrost is more of a villain name and does not fit Bristlefrost, who is actually kind and compassionate!
Number 4: Clear Sky. Clear Sky signalizes a clear and pretty sky, full of happiness, modesty, and kindness. However, Clear Sky was just the opposite of that. He was not modest, kind, and happy at all and instead greedy. I do not hate Clear Sky and actually love his name, but I don’t think it is a name that suits him well. Maybe Dark Sky would’ve suited him better.
Number 3: Rainflower. When you think Rainflower, you think of a flower blossoming in the spring rain. Was Rainflower like a beautiful flower blossoming? Nope. She neglected her son because he looked different and treated him terribly. She wasn’t kind and understanding to Crookedstar when he was a kit, and was instead mean and ignored him completely. I believe that Darkflower or Grayflower would have suited her more and that Rainflower could’ve been a good name for a kind hero.
Number 2: Breezepelt. A breeze is cool, heartwarming, and feels good. . . unlike Breezepelt. He is not cool and heartwarming at all and instead is very greedy, bitter, and angry. Breezepelt is more of a kind cat’s name than an arrogant cat’s name.
Number 1: Badgerfang. Yes, this little kit’s dying scene was brave and heartbreakingly beautiful, especially when he wanted to name himself “Badgerfang” after his mentor Flintfang. However, I must insist that this name does not fit him at all. Badgerfang is a name that sounds very evil, aggressive, and arrogant. You can imagine a badger’s sharp and yellow fangs instead of the tiny, adorable kit who gave his life to save his Clan. This name does not fit Badgerfang at all, maybe would’ve been a good name for a villain. But Badgerfang himself was amazing and deserves a strong name in the end.
Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this article!
Nice article!
Also Hollyleaf.
Bristlefrost – I actually think that Bristlefrost is a pretty cool name, like Yellowfang
Clear Sky – I think he was an excellent hunter… all you have to do is read the 1st chapter of The Sun Trail. But I don’t like how he was like GRAY WING GET OFF THIS IS MY PLACE!!! Gray Wing is literally so amazing. And I was thinking maybe Clouded Sky would be a good name, since he was first purely awesome, and then his “sky” was “clouded” by his own greed
Rainflower – I think Rainflower is a horrible character. She’s literally on my top ten worst characters in Warriors list. And yes, Darkflower would be a good name, but Darkflower is also the name of Rowanstar’s mother
Breezepelt – I don’t like him. That’s just… yeah. Crowfeather was an awesome character, and his third son was horrible. Maybe Darkfang, Windfang, or Bristlefang would have been cool. Ooh, Bristlefang sounds nice…
Badgerfang – Like Bristlefrost and Yellowfang, I think this name is pretty cool. But you do have good points, and maybe Badgerfang could be changed into something like Badgerstripe, because his face is like… well… you know… black and white striped…
– Cloudy
Warrior cats doesn’t give meaning to most prefixes and suffixes. Sometimes names have meaning, like (spoilers ahead):
• Firestar being named after his first prophecy
• Leafpool being named after Leafstar (and possibly Spottedleaf)
• Jayfeather having the same suffix has his dad, Crowfeather
But most of the time, cats in the series don’t get special names that mean anything. If every cat did, that would mean that Foxheart got the short end of the stick.
Nice article. All of your points our so true 🙂
Theres problems with this in that you’re mistaking prefixes for suffix meanings. Prefixes describe appearance, since that’s what they’re first named as a kit, like the color of their pelt. Suffixes are the personality bits, or just pertain to the suffix (like “-fur.”) The suffix “-flower” means a sweet and motherly cat, so instead of changing “Rain” I’d probably name her Rainthorn, since that still relates to her appearance, her personality, AND flowers somewhat. Badgerfang’s name fits fine because he was a tough and determined little kit, and keep in mind he was a KIT kit, not fully apprentice age, so if he were to live on he’d presumably be rather strong if he’s that good as a kit. It’s also fitting because, as he states, it’s his mentors suffix. Like Crowfeather, sometimes names are chosen by the cat to name themself after someone. “-feather” means long, soft fur, which Crowfeather doesn’t have, but is named that because he chose it.
Good lists for prefixes and suffixes are here, with meanings and even rename options (like when Brightheart was renamed Lostface.) The suffix list can be found in the comments ^^ https://www.deviantart.com/natural–20/art/Warrior-prefixes-214762803
I think you’re getting too technical with the names. It can go either way and it doesn’t really have to mean much of anything. For example, Ivypool’s appearance doesn’t have anything to do with ivy, despite her prefix being “ivy”, and some suffixes like “-nose” or “-foot” don’t mean anything personality-wise. Yes, these do pertain to the prefix like you said, but there are other examples of prefixes also meaning personality bits, like “bright”, which can be referring to bright fur or a bright personality, like with Brightheart’s name.
It often happens to create a false vision of the character, like a mask. Like Clear Sky, who was seen as a good guy at first, became bad and tainted the clearness of his name. Bristlefrost, idk what happened, Rainflower, it actually sounds cruel, like a flower that blossoms in a storm, signalling trouble. Breezepelt. Breezes are not always cool and refreshing, they can hit you with cold that pierces through your skin and wind that tumbles everything around. Breezepelt is like that, he’s cold and messes up stuff. Badgerfang was just a kit! He wanted to seem fierce, and he thanked his mentor for everything, no wonder he chose Badgerfang
Great article !
I agree
frost can also mean quiet calm kind soft grateful
Great article!! This article was super fun to read, and I agree with all your points 😄
Breeze can also mean a cold or chilling wind, i think that name fits him. Other then that great article!
Actually bristlefrost is a beautiful name in my opinion. Frost doesn’t mean cold and evil lol. It can also mean frost like a snowflake or calmness. And bristle isn’t always “angry and evil”. In fact bristlefrost is my favourite name in warriors.
