Did Firestar love Spottedleaf more than Sandstorm? by Sparktooth

Sparktooth questions Firestar’s true feelings.

Hey once again, bloggers! Sparktooth is here! I was rereading a few of the older Warriors books, and began to think something I never considered first reading it. I began to wonder if Firestar cared for Spottedleaf a little more than Sandstorm. FireXSand is one of my favorite ships. So I would find it pretty upsetting if that was the case. But Firestar is one of my favorite characters, so chances are that feeling would go pretty quickly XD.

“The tortoiseshell she-cat padded toward the cave entrance and paused for a heartbeat, her pelt brushing his[Firestar]. Too soft for Sandstorm to hear, she murmured ‘Sometimes, I’d give anything for things to be different.’” -Firestar’s Quest, pg. 402.
This scene caused me to question Firestar’s feelings toward Sandstorm. Sandstorm was very hot-headed in this scene, and I don’t blame her. Firestar was acting very nice to Spottedleaf, a lot more than was necessary, I think. What I mean is it almost seemed like they were flirting or something. Sandstorm was his mate! I’m not saying Firestar doesn’t love Sandstorm because he certainly does. But Firestar lost someone who he fell in love with before: Spottedleaf. Even though he loves Sandstorm, that doesn’t mean he’ll stop loving Spottedleaf. It’s exactly like with Graystripe with Silverstream and Millie. He still loves Millie, but won’t stop loving Silverstream. But I still can’ get over how much Firestar mentions Spottedleaf. And I mean, he mentions her a LOT. Don’t believe me? Here:

“‘I think they’re wonderful names,’ Firestar replied. The dark ginger Squirrelkit for her fluffy tail, of course, and Leafkit in memory of Leafstar-and perhaps of Spottedleaf too.” -Firestar’s Quest, pgs. 509-510.
“Firestar stared at his daughter as though he were seeing her for the first time. ‘I wish you could’ve known Spottedleaf,’ he murmured. ‘You remind me of her.’” -Dawn, pg. 141.

There is plenty more than just two if you pay attention to the books. But those are the two I decided to include in this article. Moving on, ever notice how when Firestar smells Spottedleaf when he’s dreaming, he describes it as ‘Spottedleaf’s sweet scent.’ I don’t remember him describing Sandstorm’s scent that way. And in The Darkest Hour, Firestar wanders by the river sometime before the battle with BloodClan. He sits there and begs for Spottedleaf to help him, or send him some kind of sign. Why didn’t he go find Sandstorm?

After reading this, you’re probably like, “Firestar hates Sandstorm! Why is he pretending to love her when he obviously loves Spottedleaf!?” But…is that really true?
“‘I love you, Sandstorm,” Firestar put in. ‘You’ll never be second-best for me. My love for you belongs here and now, in the life that we share-and it will last for all the moons to come, I promise.’” -Firestar’s Quest, pgs. 401-402.
So maybe it’s just me. Maybe Firestar loves both of them equally. But do you remember the first quote from Firestar’s Quest I used? That happened right after the last quote I used.

Well, there’s my thoughts for you. Now that I read this over, I made Firestar sound a little more like the antagonist. Comment below if you think I should write a part two!

  • He never knew spotted leaf that much which made her easier to forget.I think spottedleaf knew this so she kept on coming into Firestar’s dreams.

  • I NEVER THOUGHT THAT FIRESTAR EVER HAD A CRUSH ON SPOTTEDLEAF!! It breaks my heart to know! Sandstorm is one of my favorite warrior cats ever! I really think you should do a part 2. 😀

  • if i recall correctly, and i’m quite sure that i have, during “Firestar’s Quest”, it was the cat himself that actually ruined the relationship by talking too deeply with Spottedleaf, causing Sandstorm to do what her name suggests that she does the best by “storming off”. it was then, that Spottedleaf corrected the misunderstandings between the 3 of them. in “The Last Hope”, it’s fair to say that, Sandstorm felt both the pain of her mate, due to the loss of Spottedleaf ,as well as the pain for her mate, when Firestar could no longer be healed. personally, to me, it feels like the human nature. i actually wrote an essay about the good vs evil of our nature. what is the absolute truth of human nature? is it good, or is it evil? in reality, it’s both and neither, meaning both good and evil, and neither good nor evil. the relationship between Firestar and Sandstorm vs him and Spottedleaf is very similar. therefore, what i’m try to tell you all, is that: just like the good vs evil of our lives, the theory of relativity by Einstein, so was the love vs hate relationship between the 3 cats, as there was no absolute, 100% or definite answer to which of the 2 she-cats Firestar loved more, than the other.

  • I agree with Greystripe, Spottedleaf totally does not deserve a life like that. And Nobody should forget she was the kind person who defended sandstorm so that sandstorm can be alive and happily live ever after with Firestar. And what I’m delusional about is that. Spottedleaf deserves more respect since she died defending sandstorm, the cat y’all love who cannot do self defense ( trying not to be mean, sry) this is just a discussion, can’t y’all respect kind Spottedleaf?

  • “I’ve never thought into it that deeply […] could, could […] no, firestar is a good cat, he would never do such a thing!” -maplefall after reading this.
